Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Hey guys! Brand spankin' new to this franchise. I decided to start as Whitehawk in Vanarama Conference South, wound up winning 3 of my 4 friendlies, and have started 4-1-1 in conference play.

I wound up asking a few questions in a different thread, but I'm going to copy paste them here:

I've got Wigan to be my affiliate and just added a solid GK/CM from them on loan. I've hired a Director of Football, Chief Scout, and Scout. Also my Asst. Coach left in a week so had to get a new one.

Anything you think I NEED to do that is basic and I haven't? Maybe something that is buried and hard to find but important?

Also, my specific question is about my boards max weekly salary cap based on role. It feels like all the guys on my team want more than what my board's max is and wont go any lower in negotiations. Is there a way to change the weekly salary max? Is it as simple as adjusting the total budget slider? Do I have to ask the board for it specifically? Or is it just because my team has some financial issues and owes loan money?
Turns out the GK and CM turned down a loan to my team, so now I'm scouting some of their U18's to see if they are worth it...and I have also hired a Director of Youth Football.

Part of me wants to download that England to level 23 patch and play as the lowest level and build up (it's what I love in sports games), but I've heard it might not be as comprehensive as I thought.

Anyway, this game is awesome, I love it (and hate it) already. Just drew 1-1 when my team gave up a goal in the 89th min after holding a 1-0 lead from the 6th min. And my main striker is out 2-3 months with fractured ribs. Yay.

In much better news, I beat the 2000-1 odds and didn't get relegated! Strasbourg finished 15, and the board rewarded me by increasing my wage budget by 1mil to 9mil p/a. Still paltry, but it's a step in the right direction.

Time to raid Bordeaux for some players!

FM likes to toy with my emotions. Last season I made a move from Stirling in Scotland to Barnet in League 2. Having a fantastic season with Barnet. Currently 12th 22 games into the season. Only 8 points back on a playoff spot. In the south final of the J.Paint trophy.

Out of nowhere an Icelandic team offers me an interview. At first I was like yeah right. But then I looked at the league, and realized I could be playing for a Champions League spot. So I took the interview.

Interview goes well as far as I can tell. They even came back with staff change proposals a week later. I figured that meant I had the job locked up. Then a week goes by, I get an email saying they went in another direction. Why did you have me propose staff changes then? I was looking forward to learning a new language and competing for European football. Guess its back to trying to get promotion.

Also FM thinks every team is Liverpool apparently. So many damn injuries.

There is no way to start a save in 2016? I was hoping to start with MLS season but can't get the editor to get me to start in 2016. I created a custom MLS but no luck

It's hilarious to me that in my save relegated Cardiff were just named Premier League overachievers of the season. Yeah, they overachieved themselves all the way back to the Championship.

Going to do a Create A Club in the lowest level in English football (level 23) using the download pack.

                  South Coast Rangers FC.

Playing pretty well just before the January transfer window. It's Year 4 now, so I'm really gunning for the title, anything less will be a disappointment. I feel like I've got the team to do it.

Sitting nicely tied for first in the league (although Chelsea has a game in hand)

Performing pretty well in the Champions League as well; we were the only team in the competition to have a spotless record in the group stage. And this was after resting some players in the last couple games, after we had already clinched our spot in the knockout round.

I have a system where I take my most promising prospects and tutor them with my first team players. I've never seen this before, though:

Harry Kane is playing out of his mind, just banging the goals in. 35 goals in 31 appearances for club and country this season.

I've actually had that falling out with mentor thing a couple times in my current save. In my case, both times the youngster took a hit in stats development.

And it feels good to make history at a club who has been around for so long. Pretty happy about this.

First ever time appearing in 130 years, and then come away with a convincing win. I actual jumped out of my chair and did a little happy dance. Scared the crap out of my dog.

Now to continue pushing on to try and make the promotion playoffs. Sitting in five points and three spots back with five games to go. But I have one in hand. Looking possible as long as I don't get any injuries to key players.

Made the playoffs with Barnet. Squeaked into 6th by 1 point on the final day. Won the semis 3-2, and lost in the final 2-1. So no promotion. But a fantastic season. Something to really build on and fight for a title/promotion next season.

But then I started getting a lot of interview offers. And one was from a Northern Ireland Premiership (Danske Bank Premiership) team. I only take it because, once again, instant shot at continental football without having to climb to the BPL. While I love the idea of taking Barnet to the BPL over a span of time, (or trying to anyways) I also really love the idea of taking a small premier league job that has Champions or Europa qualifications for the winner. Trying not only to turn my team into a power house, but also helping the league advance, allowing the other teams to grow also. Get more UEFA spots, bring in more money, higher class of players, etc. Its sounds hard. But also sounds like a great, fun long term save.

So they string me along for almost two months. Then give the job to someone else. I'm pissed. Third time this has happened, from three different jobs of this stature. In three different countries. I'm a better manager stats wise than any of the three that got the jobs over me.

A week goes by and I check the job openings. Another NIR team just fired their manager. Oh look at that. Its the rival of the team that just strung me along. Applied. Wow, that was fast, interview the next day. Contract offer for the job two days after that. They mean business. So do I. I accepted it.

I'm now going to stay with this team unless they fire me. I am now the permanent (hopefully) manager of the Portadown Ports for the rest of my career.

                              My goals are to:
                              • Win a couple league titles
                              • Win some local cups
                              • Turn professional
                              • Increase facilities
                              • Eventually make UEFA group stages consistently
                              • Increase qualification slots by raising league stature
                              • Bring in league TV money
                              • Take over National team
                              • Win world cup with NIR

And after looking over the current roster and the teams financial situation, I've got my work cut out for me.
