Went from Automatic Promotion to losing in the playoff final, surprisingly we struggled to put balls in the back of the net after OUR BEST PLAYER LEFT BECAUSE OF THE BOARD DECIDING TO ACCEPT A **** OFFER. ****. but I'm not bitter. I promise.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I am still so new to this game, it is SO incredibly deep. It continues to blow me away as I uncover new things.
Really trying to learn HOW to 'play' this game--as I've come across a very poor run of form with Arsenal in mid-December.
I've learned that you apparently need multiple tactics so as to not let the computer 'expect' what you're doing? Incredible (FIFA where you at?).
Couple that with I just lost Giroud (only 'real' ST; as Welbeck still out) for 4-5 months with a broken ankle. SMH.
I've been searching around for others' tactics. Not sure how I feel about that, as I'd rather create my own.
How many different tactics do you guys tend to use?Arsenal | New York YankeesComment

In my current save (second ever in FM, so I'm new, just like you), I have 3 tactics that I train my team on. My main is 4-2-3-1 Narrow, my secondary is 4-4-2, and my third (that I have only used once) is 4-5-1. I like to use the pre-match scouting reports to see what my opponent is struggling with formation wise and then check what I did last time I played them to decide what formation I'm going to use.
It also depends what kind of game I'm expecting. My 4-2-3-1 narrow is more attacking, the 4-4-2 is better for wing play with crosses, and the 4-5-1 I play pretty defensive if I'm going up against a high flying team.
I only chose those tactics, mind you, because I have the personnel to fit them. I have a couple of very good attacking/advanced mids with a great shadow striker that I feature behind my main target man in my 4-2-3-1...if my players were different, I'd play different, for sure.Teams:

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
The **** you mean MY DECISION to let Kwesi Appiah go? I'm sorry, YOU decided the club needed the paltry sum of £135,000 instead of our LITERAL BEST PLAYER, and now MY job security is affected because of YOUR decision? Spineless **** of a Chairman blaming me for his sale. I PROTESTED THE ******* TRANSFER, I had NOTHING to do with Kwesi Appiah leaving the club.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
So, I'm trucking along in my first full year as manager at HJK in Finland. They are the top team in the country with the most success, but when I joined they were facing relegation after they struggled with a Champions League schedule. Saved the team and got them to finish mid-table, am now on a 10 game unbeaten run in season 2 and am 7 points clear in first place with about 1/3 of the season left.
I know my contract is ending the next season, and I'm kind of itching to spread my wings a bit and move to a bigger club...so I applied to Torino, Hellas Verona, and Rostov (Russia). Got interviews with all 3...didn't get the two Italy jobs, and am still waiting to hear back from Rostov. My lack of experience/managing in a low level country like Finland is hurting me, I'm sure. Might need to lower my standards for a move a tiny bitTeams:

How do you guys play your games. Do you watch them play out or do you sim them? I'm coming up on a good amount of free time soon and I'm thinking about playing out a full 90 minute match to see how it is.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Really like the 2D "dots" as it helps show where players are on the pitch. I'd prefer to watch the entire match that way though honestly.
Also, not entirely sure how to set that up lol...

Well...this feels really, really good. Still 2 games left, but I have secured the title!! Beat SJK (3rd) 5-0, while FC Inter (2nd) lost!
Bam!

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Hahaha, of course now that I won the title a team from Denmark offered me an interview. They're currently in last but the points are close enough where that shouldn't be too bad. BUT, they are in bad financial shape.
Finland (where I am) is 55th in continental reputation, Danish Superliga is 19th...so it'd be a huge jump for me.
We'll see if I get the job offer, but I have some thinking to do...
EDIT: WELP, asked for a tad more transfer money which in hindsight was stupid...but I didn't get the job.Last edited by Velocityy; 09-01-2016, 02:58 PM.Teams:

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Wow! The job offers were FLYING in after I missed out on a few. Was tied to LOSC Lille in France but didn't get that job, missed out on a few Ligue 2 and other jobs. Then got offered the job at Troyes in Ligue 2 and delayed for a week to see what else would happen, and wound up getting an offer to be the new manager at.....
Talk about a step up in money/reputation!
ON TO AUSTRIA! My climb up the coaching ranks took a nice leap here in just year number 3.Teams:
