    FM Questions

I've been a fan of the FIFA Manager game for sometime. I'm thinking about jumping ship to this because I feel EA is going by way of "arcade" now.

Questions.... How is the 3D match? From the few videos I've seen, it appears as though you only see the "highlights" of the match and not necessarily the full game. Or is this an option to turn off / on?

Is there more than just the one camera angle I've been seeing? (High, Side view)

How are the stats? Can you have trnys, etc?

    Thanks.

There are settings for watching the match. You can watch the entire match, extended highlights, or key highlights. You can also set the speed at which the match happens (how fast time passes, not how many minutes are played - there is always 90 minutes).

There are about 10 different camera angles.

Your next two questions make me think you don't quite understand fully what FM is. FM is made to be a simulation and the 3d match interface is really just a treat that has been added in the past couple of years. If you're looking for a game that looks good visually, this isn't it. What you do with FM is take control of a club or international team and take them through real seasons. You have control over pretty much anything you could think of in a club's operations.

So to answer your last two questions

How are the stats? - I assume you're asking if they are realistic. Stats are just a part of the equation that makes this game extremely accurate. Not just stats, but the way teams behave in the transfer window, prices teams are paying for players, results, etc. It's all very accurate. Basically, the game is based on millions upon millions of mathematical equations using player and staff attributes along with more random things such as weather, player morale, player personality, etc....

Can you have tourneys? - I assume you mean custom tourneys. The database is modable using an editor. This is not very user friendly, so I'd say in the classic sense, no, you can't have custom tourneys. You'd have to fit them into the database structure as an added tournament to the real season. (Which would involve maually setting rules, eligible teams, dates, frequency, prize money, etc.).

Don't forget the ability to host a friendly cup competition. Limited (4 teams, single elimination bracket with [I think] a third place game), but that might have been what you were asking for.

MLS is in by default already. The only mods I added were real league and competition names, a logo pack and a face pack.

I use FM Base.co.uk. It's a pretty well rounded site where you can find many mods, custom databases, etc.

Whitesox originally pointed me to a really good North American based FM site, but I forgot what it was since I have been using FM Base.

Is Gamestop the only place to purchase this? I would like to have it on CD/DVD rom, but SI Games website doesn't have USA as a country to choose from...

Let me explain... I travel a lot for work, so does this game require you (like a few others are doing now) to be connected to the internet in order to play? Or can I download (if it's better), and play whenever / where-ever?

Buy it from Direct2Drive. No need to be connected online with them (unless they changed this year). It's a straight up download and install once and you're good to go. I did two years ago, but this year I just went with Steam.

Direct2Drive is one of the original and longest running PC core game digital distributor founded in 2004. Direct2Drive’s offering covers the most AAA publishers of all digital distributors for direct to download and STEAM platform keys. We here at Direct2Drive, will continue to build upon the current foundation to deliver a better way to Discover, Discuss, and Purchase games. It is our belief that the future of games is through digital distribution and we will continue to give our consumers a better way to game.

With Steam you just need to log in once with the game and then you can play offline anytime.

Buy it on steam, my suggestion at least.

                        Re: FM Questions

Just saw that. I must of been tired and only saw the "UK" version lastnight. Attempting to download the 1GB demo to give it another whirl before purchase. Hopefully D/L it soon...taking forever from SI's server.

Ok..finally downloaded, but can't install it. Keeps saying to "choose another directory for extracting". Every folder I try doesn't work. The file is about 1.4GB, so I know I've d/l the whole thing. Any thoughts?

update: Well, maybe i'll try later. Seems like it's a server issue for D/L on their site because the download rate is like .03kb a second. ouch.

update 2: As far as the "choose another directory", my search on the net shows that this issue happened a few months ago as well. Haven't found a solution...anyone know?

You can always download the demo on Steam. Shouldn't be any problems that way.

                            Re: FM Questions

I'll have to try again tonight. I tried Steam lastnight and was only getting about 1kbs download speed. Maybe their servers were messed up. Thought it was my DSL, but I ran tests on it and still clocked out at fast speeds. So I'm thinking it's on SI's end.

Was finally able to D/L with Steam. Much better. Only one question though, if you watch this game, can you adjust the half lengths? I don't want to watch a full 45 mins half. Wondering if you can adjust to play "10 mins" per half kind of thing? I couldn't find this option in the "options" menu.

For some reason I always have to be logged in online to start FM via Stream, despite trying to start in offline mode. It's really annoying, I should be able to play the game I paid for any where I want even if interweb isn't available.
