Re: Contemplating the jump to FM13 from FIFA13
On that note, I was playing a Capital One Cup third round tie against Wolves with my second stringers. Had a 1-0 lead before a Craig Gordon error gave them a goal right in injury time. Cursed the game. Then, Ross Barkley runs through the Wolves Defense and scores a fabulous goal to give me the win! Elation and relief lol.
My next opponent - Man United at home lol

Hell I have been fired 6 months into my first season because I wasn't cutting the mustard. That damn sure doesn't happen in FIFA.Comment

Re: Contemplating the jump to FM13 from FIFA13
Is there a checklist of like... "Things to do before the next match" so I'm not forgetting to do something? That's my biggest concern. I'm not going to know I needed to do something and it doesn't get done and messes things up.Good decision I would say. Another thing to bear in mind is don't get too despondent if your first save goes wrong, i've been playing this game for nearly 20 years and my first save on FM13 has been a nightmare leading to me getting the sack after a few months.
But for me that is the beauty of the game, it's not easy which makes it all the more rewarding when results start to come. Also, often my best career games include a miserable tenure at one club at least where for whatever reason things just don't work out and as a result I often then find myself at a club I would not have expected to manage and loved it.
There is no question that FM can be overwhelming at times but there are plenty of helpful forums out there plus the in game tutorials to help you out. One great thing about this game is you can get your Assistant and other staff to take care of almost everything so you can take your time getting into the game.
In the Demo, who do you think would be a good starting point?
Coming from FIFA, the way FM labels the positions is a bit of an annoyance. MFC instead of CMF, etc? Ugh... lolComment

Man City, Man Utd., Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern, Barca, Real Madrid...really any big time team that is going to rely less on your managerial skills and more on their own talent. Then, once you've gotten the hang of things, you can try your hand at lower league management if you so choose.Comment

Well, I played today as Leeds United. Ipswitch, Reading, Portsmouth, QPR... All loses. And by more than 2 goals.
My back 4 are like swiss cheese. Their strikers just sprint down the middle with nobody to challenge them. My strikers can't score and my midfielders can't create. My keeper couldn't find a football were it wedged up his ***...Comment

As rsn said, start as a big team because you have a bigger margin for error in terms of tactics and training. Leeds is not an easy team off the bat especially since in the lower leagues, you should have some experience first before delving into thatWell, I played today as Leeds United. And I suck.

You should set your tactics so your back four play a little deeper IMHO. You're probably getting skinned because there's not a lot of pace in your back 4.Comment

Re: Contemplating the jump to FM13 from FIFA13
I wouldn't say there is a checklist necesarily, in the first week at a new club i'll mainly be spending my time assessing my squad, choosing a formation, seeing what players to let go and what players are available to me in the transfer market. Is there a checklist of like... "Things to do before the next match" so I'm not forgetting to do something? That's my biggest concern. I'm not going to know I needed to do something and it doesn't get done and messes things up.

Other than that I leave a lot of the "day to day" tasks to my assistant, such as training, match preperation and talking to the press. One thing that is worth doing yourself at the start of the season is setting up your scouts to scour the world for youth players (only if you are planning a long-term game).
Also, I honestly wouldn't worry about maybe missing or forgetting something as you will make mistakes along the way, I still miss or forget to do certain things but thats all part of learning the game. The more you play and familiarise yourself with the game the better you will get.
Like others have said, starting with a big club is the way to go for anyone new to the game. I would choose a club with a lot of money I.e Man City so you can learn how the transfer market works.
As for the positions, FM has it right. I can't remember right now how FIFA does it but FM's terminology is in the main spot on.Comment

I wish I would have seen this before I dumped 8 hours in to a Leeds United save. lolMan City, Man Utd., Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern, Barca, Real Madrid...really any big time team that is going to rely less on your managerial skills and more on their own talent. My thinking was Leeds was a good team in a lower league and should be easy (relatively) to get promoted. Well, either they suck or I don't know how to run a football team for shat. lolComment

Blame it on managing in the Championship! It's one of the most competitive leagues around with the majority of teams around the same standard meaning that it is not easy to predict. Another issue with managing in the lower leagues is that the transfer and wage budgets are usually low meaning you will find it hard to do much with the squad (early on at least). Personally I love it and always start at a lower league level but it can certainly be a rough ride!I wish I would have seen this before I dumped 8 hours in to a Leeds United save. lol

Also, read the tutorials. They are helpful for new players
It's very overwhelming to start, but you will get the hang of it. I would strongly suggest that you visit and sign up for an account at the official game forums: www.community.sigames.com
You will get anything from tactics and training help, lower league management, and team threads. A great place to start for new players
I would also suggest that you do this when playing. Look at your team and ask yourself what style you want your team to play. Then see if your current team can actually play that tactic with their skills. The beauty of this game is developing your own tactic and seeing it work. That's why it's easier to start as a big team - they usually have a solid starting 11 and tactically, easier to incorporate new tactics as opposed to a Championship side where the tactics will be more direct. Once your team gets familiar with your tactic, you can tweak as you please.
Don't count on being perfect because there's something you're going to miss. I don't dwell on missed players like I used to and focus on continuing to make my squad better.Comment
