What type of transfers does everyone usually do?

I'm still playing FM 12 and I started a career with Stoke. Peter Crouch was in high demand so I sold him for 20+ M in the January window after only going for loans(Welbeck) and prospects(Lenny Nangis). Flipped that and brought in a bunch of wonderkids from Brazil as well as Carlos Fierro, Giovani Dos Santos, and Junior Hoilett. Brought in Nene on a loan in the summer so I at least have one established player int he front line. I guess you can say my style is to build for the future.

With FM I am all about the prospects and follow a similar path. When I play Madden or NBA I usually trade youth/picks for established stars because I won't play enough seasons to see youth play through. FM saves last years though!

Same here. I've found soccer management of prospects/youth to be way more intriguing in FM than any other game.

I try to keep my established players and buy 17-18 year olds who I can develop and turn into home grown players for the different competitions. As fun as it is to buy Messi, it's more fulfilling to sign a young player and watch him develop into a world class killer

The first thing I do is max out my youth facilities and shop for younger players with high upside. I will go after the occasional 25 year old that fills a need and is elite in a couple categories.

Much the same as me, if I'm with a really big club I will sometimes go after the really big signings, though most of the time it isn't worth it. Biggest mistake I ever made was signing Falcao on one of my saves, I paid nearly 60 million for him as well as extorionate wages and in the end despite playing well for a few seasons really just served to screw up my finances when I could have just gone for a cheaper player who had time to grow.

Which is why I have a policy of not buying players over 25. Fellaini now will be the exception given the mancrush I have on him from my Everton save though lol.

In all seriousness, while it's fun to want to buy Messi, Ronaldo etc. it ends up being a drain because if not the transfer fee, it's the wages that will end up hurting.

Yeah, most leagues I look for Bosman's first, then I look for disgruntled players. When I was in Italy, I did a lot of co-ownership, that worked out REALLY well for me, as I was able to afford, and get players above what I normally would get.

Whatever's good for the team. Usually under 25 is my rule with a focus on having stars that count towards the home-grown minimum.

However, sometimes a good vet can put a good young team over the hump to a league title. So if I've got the money, I'm not against getting a 30+ guy for a year or two if he has something in the tank. It's especially nice if I can get them on a free.

I mostly go the Arsene Wenger route but occasionally I buy position needs.

Christian Grindheim. I don't know why, but everytime I sign this guy, he's magic. Pure magic. One of my other saves I was at Stoke, and closing in on relegation, I sign Grindheim, and boom, I'm top 8

In my ManU save I had on FM12, basically got some younger guys to come through after the older players retired/became useless, also picked up some wonderkids (ie. Carlos Fierro) just to beast it out in a couple of seasons.

My buddy and I talk about Leigh Griffiths as if he were a childhood friend of ours. We've been signing him since he was 17 and he never disappoints.
