Here's a thread on the official SI forums that links to loads of tactic information:
Tactic Building and Training Guides
A number of those threads are a few years old, but they're all based on real football concepts and can apply to pretty much any version of FM. At the very least, read the first thread "Building a Tactic From the Beginning and Maintaining it Long Term," it's great for beginners and veterans alike.
One good thing - there's really no right or wrong way to go about tactics. Obviously some things will have higher success rates than others, but you can be as simple or complex as you want. Just make sure your players work within the system. For example, a high pressing tactic will likely fail if you have players with low work rate and stamina.
My advice: start simple. Don't get crazy with team or player instructions. They aren't necessary until you understand what you want to get out of your team. I could go on, but the thread I linked above should answer most of your questions or at least guide you in the right direction.
