Advice for a FM Noob

All, I am an avid fan of football and player of FIFA. I have always had an interest in FM, but with it being free on Epic, grabbed it just now. Any tips/tricks/things I should know before I jump in? It feels a bit overwhelming, which is why I had never purchased it before. Thanks in advance!

Well where do i start
Seriously though if you are new i would suggest you delegate (under Staff>Responsibilites) all the things you're not that interested in. Your staff will do a decent job of any task you delegate (depends of their rating of course). Once you do that then suggest to try and play and experiment. There's so many good guides, tutorials on any topic out there as well so you should try and learn one thing at a time and delegate everything else until you are ready to handle more responsibilities

First - I'd check out our main thread here. We'd love to hear your stories, complaints, cool things, questions, etc there. It is a bit disorganized at times, but someone will certainly be there to answer questions.


Now - the most important tip - Don't get discouraged. You're probably gonna lose a lot in the beginning, and there's gonna be a lot of moving parts and a lot of things happening you're gonna mess up, you're gonna wanna do some things differently, etc. But it's all growing pains. I don't consider myself very smart, but I'd say it took me most of the 1000 hours I put in FM11, and first few hundred of FM12 before I even really found a groove for things.



As the person above me said, don't be afraid to delegate tasks, even as a seasoned veteran with a completely unreasonable amount of hours played I don't do everything, in fact I mostly just handle training, tactics, and the actual signing of players, I leave almost all scouting to my scouts/DoF. I would also check out FM Scout, they are my preferred website for the "other" things. I suggest playing with the default skin for a little while, and then trying out skins from there as they really end up improving the experience tenfold. You can also find logo packs, face packs, and kit packs(just not for manchester united!) there and they'll make the game look and feel more authentic and cooler.


I'm going to stop here, but also, don't be afraid to ask more questions, **** up and complain about it, or really talk about anything FM related in the thread I linked above, because many of us have been there, we might not be able to fix it, but we'll at least like your post and call it an attempt at consoling you for losing the league with FC Andorra to Real Madrid on the last day.
