We are officially the worst defensive team in the EPL. 2 own goals against a bad Blackburn team. Arshavin was crap, Djourou was crap, and well, we were crap on the whole.

How you can go from Dortmund to this is beyond me. And I thought the Gunners were working on defending from set pieces? We were up 2-1 at the half against a poor Blackburn team. That we went on to lose is inexcusable.

It'd be amazing how much better we did if we played slightly better defense. We can score and we'll continue to do so as the team gels. However, until something happens, we'll continue to play the same embarrassing defense.

Zonal marking is a joke for this team. We haven't been able to play an effective offside trap in years and when we give up one goal, we immediately become scared of giving up more instead of trying to get that one back.

That is our problem right there. Instead of putting the team in man defense on set pieces and having players held accountable for crap goals, teams will just continue to believe and know that we are weak there. No one on our team attacks balls off set pieces, we just sit and wait for it to get to our head or expect someone else to win it. When we give up goals this way, everyone just looks around at each other and thinks "we're unlucky" or "here we go again" and the morale just drops. If it were a man marking system and we conceded, someone is accountable at least and we could find a consistent problem player or at least move forward knowing that the next set piece we will be fine as long as we get that player back in the game and focused on the task at hand.

Arsène Wenger to keep faith with Arsenal's coaching staff
The Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger, will persist with his coaching staff, believing they have the ability to strengthen his side's porous defence

                  Shocking! But not really.

Big surprise that Van Persie feels frustrated. If we don't turn things around, it's only a matter of time before he decides he'd like to ease his frustration by playing for a different club. Let's hope we turn things around.

After this year he only has one year remaining on his current deal. It needs to be taken care of quickly.

The track record of the club wouldn't make me too optimistic about this happening.

Well, last season they tried to have talks with Nasri on several occasions but he ended up saying he wouldn't talk until the Summer. Then we know how that turned out.

I fear the same could happen with RVP, but it would be more of a let's wait and see what we do this year and then talk about the team and money. Not just money.

With the current side, we couldn't do much at all without him.

Also the squad for today's game is below. It's expected that Ryo and Park will both start.

So I hear Shrewsbury is up 1-0 on a headed goal... Outstanding.

UPDATE: 1-1 at the half. Gibbs scored from a Jenkinson cross.

2-1. AOX get's his first goal as a Gooner.

                                Let's hold on, boys.

Benayoun scores his first in the '78 to make it 3-1. Looks like a win. At this point, it doesn't matter who it's over. We need it.
