Well even putting the result aside I'm fairly over Emery at this point. No improvement defensively, even just structure wise, our transition game is embarrassing, we can barely keep the ball in the opponents 1/2, we're simply not improving. It's not Emery Out for me yet, but I'm certainly done defending his ideas.

I'm over him, and I would like to see a change as soon as possible (I know that's not going to happen, though). I'm not saying he's our only issue, but I just don't think that he's the right manager for the squad we currently have, or that we're trying to build.
This result was so inexcusably poor that it has pushed me fairly far into this direction, and I honestly do not see myself coming back from it.Comment

Team sheet wrong. Tactics wrong. Subs wrong.
No clear DM. No sign of Callum Chambers. Sokratis and Luiz kind blowing mistakes AGAIN. Pepe not wide enough, inexperienced teenagers brought on when game was clearly slipping away.
Shall I continue?
Shocking today. And to think, we were 2-0 to the good. Mate.

We're just not the right profile for him. We're trying to build something, especially with youth—I don't think that fits him.Comment

Saw this also. Completely unacceptable. Not to mention, they scored as many today as they have all season. And their first 4 games weren’t against the most formidable opponents..

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
One more, thanks to Duncan Alexander—we’ve allowed 96 shots this season which is more than any other club in our league, La Liga, Lihue 1, Serie A, and the Bundesliga.
We put defenders in positions to make mistakes, and have done so for years. People will make Luiz jokes, but as usual, he’s an Arsenal defender who gets zero protection.
Could you imagine if Leno we’re not playing well in terms of stopping shots? We’d be more of a joke than we currently are.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
I don't know if there is a stat I genuinely care about less than raw shots. How many were on target? How many of them had a greater than 50% chance of scoring? We played poorly and didn't deserve anything from the game but there are just so many relevant talking points that don't include this utterly useless stat.Support Local Sports

Their xG (from a freely available source) was 2.83–which is quite high. I consider that a highly useful stat, as it puts the total shots into context. Also, ten were on target—that’s high.
In their previous four league matches they had a total of 11 shots on target and an average xG of 1.31.
You might find xG useless as well, though. I love it—it shows the true nature of the match.
On that note, everyone, go read the book Football Hackers. The future is now.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
I didn't intend for it to come off dick-ish, but I know it did—apologies.
To me, the shot total of today's match is what is alarming, as watching the game you could feel the imbalance that their shot total suggests. It felt like they had that many attempts—it felt like we were constantly under pressure—it felt like were Arsenal and we were Watford. No offense, Watford.
Switching gears, does anyone recall that great Gary Neville rant from last year where he defends Emery for attempting to play a system and build a style of play? I do—I still love it.
But that makes me then challenge myself and ask how I can defend that mentality, while also saying the manager should go. I came to a conclusion. Without rewatching, I believe Neville's point was that he should put a system in place and tell the players that it's how he wants to play. He'll give them a chance, but if they can't do it, they're out.
Emery's issue is that he's refusing to adapt his team selection with his one rigid philosophy, which is playing from the back. You can not continue to leave Chambers on the bench in place of Sokratis if you want your defenders to play from the back—you can not.
Said above, but conceding 59 goals in 43 league games under Emery feels systematic and not tied to poor defensive players.Comment
