you need to learn the rules mate
there is no last defender rule, its whether at the moment of contact or foul the attacker is denied a goal scoring opportunity and seeing as the foul occured with the ball bouncing around their ears neither player had control therefore it cant be a red card
unless you consider the foul to be of such a violent nature that the dismissal was for violent behaviour ?or a proffesional foul where he was cut down to prevent a move which would of resulted in a clear goal scoring opportunity
this "rule" is as misunderstood as the old
"But he got the ball" which is irrelevent when tackling form behind
I can only assume the ref decided Vermalen denied a goal scoring opportunity, which by the letter of the law he did nt but ive seen Pens given for less sometimes you just have to throw your hands up and then carry on
we won anyway so it all comes out in the wash
The Fa is very reluctant to overturn red cards by refs as they feel it underminds them, so I dont expect Arsenal to appeal id rather lose vermalen for 2 games and get him back then see him do a "rio" and get a 4 game ban
