The US beats Spain with a 2 Striker attack....

and then promptly decides to never use 2 strikers ever again?

I think Klinsman prefers not to use 2 strikers but he may be forced into it. Remember, he is still trying to figure out the best way to use his talent.

Whatever he did today it's working. 3-1 US at half. Goals from Dempsey, Altidore from the spot, and Buddle. At half, possession is 55/45 USA.

Well, its 3-1 at the half against Slovenia.

We have buddle and altidore up front with fabian johnson and bradley replacing Shea and Edu.

The team looks so much better, creating so many chances. I think the defense is struggling without the midfield control, but its just something to get used to.

Looks like a 4-4-2 with Bradley on the right, Johnson on the left, and Dempsey and Beckerman in the middle maybe?

yea, that appears to be it.

The defense looks stretched now when we aren't constantly on the attack and holding possession.

Slovenia is coming out really strong, their attack has been really well, in combination with our shotty defense.

Does anyone know what world rank Slovenia is? I think they aren't that bad, their striker is amazing.

Hmm, very interesting! I didn't realize we were that low, and they were that high. I guess with the way we've been, 34th sounds fair.

actually now that I look at the formation more and the personnel, it looks like a 4-1-2-1-2.

Beckerman as a CDM, Dempsey as the attacking midfielder and shea and bradley on the left and right with the strikers up front.

I think its that because of the diamond look that the midfield gets sometimes, its not a line.

If there wasn't so much fog over the pitch, I'm sure it would be a lot easier to tell.

2nd half was dreadful and in my opinion US lucky to take a victory here. I don't see how you don't adjust the offside trap in the beginning of the game and eventually they get burned by it.

Saw some good things but the bad things overshadowed them. Altidore missing meters away from the goal, go figure right?

Altimus, this team still has a long way to go, but compared to how they have looked since Klinsman took over this was really good.

The defense was obviously going to struggle because this is the first time that Klinsman has allowed the offense to be this aggressive. Before the U.S. game was 90% defensive, now it is 50/50 and I think the defenders just weren't ready for it.

With this team in its current state, we have to appreciate the little victories that go on during their development. It's going to be a while until the US can play mistake-free football.

the formation was a 4-1-2-1-2, they showed it just prior to the game.. Altidore and Buddle looked well, would have loved to see altidore put in that bunny though. i think that attacking midfield role suits Dempsey, and Fabian Johnson played very well. Chandler had some growing pains, i hope we don't see much more of clarence goodson. Klinsmann seems to be sold on Beckerman, but i'd like to see Jermaine Jones get his fair shot at the CDM spot.

i don't think you can just dismiss the second half completely. as they said in the postgame, USA closed out the game without giving up a real opportunity, sure there was a time in the middle where they struggled, but that's got to be expected against a good team when they're desperate for a goal.

Terrence Boyd and Juan Agudelo are great prospects. Agudelo needs to get away from the Red Bulls though. They don't play him and it is drama city. Although working under Thierry Henry can't hurt. Terrence Boyd has been raised in the German youth system, he was very effective in the u-23 scrimmage last week, and is comfortable playing in a 4-2-3-1 / 4-4-1-1 that JK is trying to install into the USMNT.

I don't think Jozy is the answer at CF especially if JK is serious about the 4-3-2-1 / 4-4-1-1

I'm not a big fan of Holden. He is great for Bolton when healthy, but his health is a concern especially since the USMNT is in a transition, and he isn't able to ease his way into the system.

Cherundolo(sp?) and Bocanegra are at the end of their careers, so I'd like to ease them into retirement. I think Bocanegra has the quality to make it through qualifying, but if he is starting come 2014 we're in trouble. I have no idea what to do about our CB/LB situation. Chandler and Gooch are the only ones I feel comfortable with. Gooch is kind of old too though isn't he 30? Depending what happens at Arsenal Shea could be the man for the LB gig. I don't think he would fit as a LMF or LWF in the Premier League. I think if he goes to Arsenal he will be a LB.
