Is the Confederations Cup something that these nations genuinely care about? Is winning the Confederations Cup prestigious in any way?University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Depends on who you ask. For the "bigger" nations (Brazil, Spain, Italy in this year's case), it may not matter. But for "smaller" nations it can be a great proving ground to show that your nation (and even your Confederation) is making progress and can hang with the big boys. In the end, it really only exists as a dry run for the World Cup venues. But that doesn't mean I don't want my country winning it every chance they get.Comment

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Yes. Winning the tournament might not bring prestige, but it's not like the players are half-assing it if they're put on the pitch. We're in for an enjoyable couple weeks of international soccer.Comment

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Me personally there's no doubt that I would love to win it and I'm quite sure most people in my country agrees with me, any chance to win a cup is enough reason to fight to get one. However, I have the feeling Tabarez won't care at all and try to compete and find a team to finish well the qualifiers, in some way I may agree with that thought but everytime my country is in a tournament I want them to give their best and represent us well.Comment

Sorry to go back to a disturbing topic, but I'm just seeing that video for the first time. There's nothing that makes me want to bash a person's skull in than to see them commit animal cruelty. Would someone give me the name of the player and the club he plays for? I want to to know who I'll be hating for the rest of his miserable life.

No need. I just saw the captioning at the bottom of the screen. Here's hoping he gets the favor returned someday.
