    I would've been very happy with a draw, but I'm not surprised at the result. That team has been one of the best in the world for several years now, even after losing Kagawa and now Gotze.

    Essentially, we ran into a team that has been at a higher level than us for a few years now. Not looking forward to the rematch in Dortmund.

    Damn this group.

      Arsenal really missed Flamini sitting in front of the back 4.

      I laugh at the tabloids who always say Torres is back to his best whenever he scores a goal.

        I thought you guys were the better team for the majority of the game. I did think that you would play for the tie late since the group is so strong.

            And their fans directed monkey chants at Yaya Toure. Why are we holding the World Cup in that ****hole?

              Re: 2013-2014 UEFA Champions League Thread

              Can someone please explain how the standings work? I'm confused as to why according to uefa that Arsenal are currently in first place. Here is their Group current standings:

              Group F

              <table class="tb_stand grp_2002729"><thead><tr class="lcol"><th class="club l nosort w160">Clubs</th><th class=""><abbr title="Played">P</abbr></th><th class=""><abbr title="Won">W</abbr></th><th class=""><abbr title="Drawn">D</abbr></th><th class=""><abbr title="Lost">L</abbr></th><th class=""><abbr title="For">F</abbr></th><th class=""><abbr title="Against">A</abbr></th><th class=""><abbr title="Goal difference">+/-</abbr></th><th class=""><abbr title="Points">Pts</abbr></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr class="on "><td class="club l nosort w160"> Arsenal FC</td><td>3</td><td>2</td><td>0</td><td>1</td><td>5</td><td>3</td><td>2</td><td>6</td></tr><tr class=" off "><td class="club l nosort w160"> Borussia Dortmund</td><td>3</td><td>2</td><td>0</td><td>1</td><td>6</td><td>3</td><td>3</td><td>6</td></tr><tr class="on "><td class="club l nosort w160"> SSC Napoli</td><td>3</td><td>2</td><td>0</td><td>1</td><td>4</td><td>4</td><td>0</td><td>6</td></tr><tr class=" off "><td class="club l nosort w160"> Olympique de Marseille</td><td>3</td><td>0</td><td>0</td><td>3</td><td>2</td><td>7</td><td>-5</td><td>0</td></tr></tbody></table>

              Now according to their website the criteria to determine the rankings are as follows:

              If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings (in descending
              order):
              a) higher number of points obtained in
              the group matches played among the
              teams in question;
              b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams
              in question;
              c) higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the
              teams in question;
              d) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches
              played among the teams in question;
              e) if, after having applied criteria a) to d), teams still have an equal ranking,
              criteria a) to d) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the
              teams in question to determine their final rankings. If this procedure does
              not lead to a decision, criteria f) to h) apply;
              f) superior goal difference from all group matches played;
              g) higher number of goals scored from all group matches played;
              h) higher number of coefficient points
              accumulated by the club in question,
              as well as its association, over the previous five seasons (see
              paragraph 9.02).

              I know it's only 3 games in but this has always confused me. Dortmund have scored more goals than Arsenal, have a better goal difference and just beat Arsenal. So why are they not in first place?

                  Results between the three tied teams:

                  Arsenal 1 - Dortmund 2
                  Arsenal 2 - Napoli 0
                  Napoli 2 - Dortmund 1

                  Tiebreaker A - All three have 3 points against each other. On to the next one.

                  Tiebreaker B - Goal difference in the matches among the three. Arsenal +1, Dortmund 0, Napoli -1

                  There you go.

                    Thank you! This has always confused me. You see it more often in the Europa standings than in the CL.

                          Those poor Plzen defenders have no clue what to do when Robben comes running at them. Their LB is frantically waving to his team mates for extra help, hahaha!
