    Re: Official Spurs Thread

Spurs are easily my favorite Premier League team right now. Actually, my 9-year old has taken a liking to Spurs as well. Fulham will always be my favorite English team, but they're still in the Championship for at least another season. I just haven't followed the Premier League long enough to truly be a hardcore fan of any team, but Spurs are at the top for me.

I can't lie, I'm an MLS guy deep down first and foremost.

I used to post on here often but then switched to Reddit.. I think I'm going to come back to OS though because Reddit is turning into only meme's and not a lot of discussion.

For Spurs, I'd love to see these transfers happen.

          Sell
Vorm - He deserves to be playing more and I'd love to see him get playing time somewhere before he retires.
          Sissoko - No explanation needed
Walker - I know he's great but Spurs could get a lot for him and Trippier is not a huge drop off.
Wimmer - I don't think he fits well in a back 3 and Poch must not like what he has been seeing to sit him pretty much half the season.

          Buy
Anyone but a small, fast, French winger. I think we have too many of those lately. But for real a backup CB (Maguire? Unless CCV is ready to step in), another attacking option (too many to list) and Pau Lopez (not sure if that signing is official yet or not).

I really like how Josh Onomah has been playing in the U20 World Cup and I think he can compete with Winks for midfield back up roles. I think it's a year too early for KWP or Edwards to get significant playing time but I'm still hopeful they will grow into the stars people think.

Toby Alderweireld is still waiting for a new contract. Out of all the defenders who have signed extensions, he should have been the most important.

He is the best defender in the Premier League at the moment. His contributions with the ball, primarily. Dier is a similar type, so it's not a huge crisis if things go awry, but I think he just realizes how important he is and want payment in the lines of the other undisputed starters. Either that or it's true that there hasn't been a contract offer yet... for some reason.

I'm sure it gets said a lot but you guys are going to HAVE to change your wage structure if you want to make the jump to big club status and keep these players. Even if you guys start winning trophies, it won't be enough to keep your top players and/or attract more.

There are probably a dozen clubs who would happily pay Toby well over 200k per week.

You say that as if we have something to say about the internal affairs of Spurs :P

Anyway, I half agree with you but at the same time I'd like Spurs to be a club that operates sensibly.

I don't think they will have to make major changes anytime soon because half the starters just signed extensions to 2020 or longer. With CL money, the higher attendance at the new stadium and the TV contract, I don't think Spurs are going to be in as much trouble as people think.

Spurs will never be the club that pays multiple players 200k a week but they can be a club that has 4-5 on 100k+ and then the rest on lower wages.

I have to disagree, Dier really struggled when playing CB this season in 4 at the back. Dier has also said he doesn't want to play at the back much longer, he wants to be in midfield.

I think he will be a great Dembele replacement after next season.

He is a different player than Dembele for sure, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be a good replacement. If you want to find a guy like Dembele, it's got to be impossible.

The reason Dembele is important is because he can hold up the ball under pressure, get the FK he needs under pressure and when all else fails for the team, he can travel across the midfield with the ball and deliver it to a more creative passer.

So no, Dier will never be a good replacement for Dembele.

Dier's qualities are entirely different. Wanyama sometimes takes up the responsibility of Dembele, Dier never does.

Dier has already proven to be a good midfield player, I honestly don't see how you could think he would be better at CB than midfield. Plus, Dier has already said he doesn't want to be a CB so your idea of him covering Aldy will never happen long term.

But Dier/Wanyama midfield have played well together this season (see NLD) and the more Dier plays in midfield the better he will be.

This is a pointless argument because we have different views but the fact Poch plays Dier in midfield whenever Dembele is out is very telling IMO.
