    Landon Donovan retiring

U.S. soccer icon Landon Donovan will retire from the sport at the end of the current Major League Soccer season, he revealed on Thursday.

Greatest American soccer player ever. He's lost a step or two, but he can still game as he proved last night.

Good luck in your future endeavors.

Landon Donovan is responsible for perhaps the most memorable sports moment of my life so for that especially, I thank him.

I hope he steps right into the analyst chair.

He had been part of ESPN's World Cup coverage team, I doubt it'll take long for him to find a place in the analyst world.

He was a little too robotic for in-studio analysis during the World Cup. Hopefully he can get a bit more comfortable.

Yeah, he looked uncomfortable, and he was extremely monotone and wooden. I have no doubt he'll get hired by one of the major networks for their soccer coverage (and he may still be under contract at the Worldwide Leader), but he needs to improve a lot.

There's no doubt in my mind we'll still be seeing lots of LD, whether it be as an analyst or a coach. I'm predicting he gets hired by NBC, they already hired Tim Howard to be a BPL analyst.

I didn't think he did that bad during the WC, yea he sounded like a robot but imagine that spot he was in. Half the fans fighting he should still be on the team, probably not really liking the coach. It would be very hard to break that team down for ESPN and not sound like your angry for being cut but I thought he did a good job.

Give him time away and let him come back when he's ready and I think we will see a different LD breaking down games.

                    Re: Landon Donovan retiring

He was in a tough spot. Didn't take long to see how much his absence hurt the team in the WC. He probably could have hung around a few years but I guess he got tired of all the training.
