Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread

Last season, we would've shored up the defence by the 70th minute, 1-0 up, after realising that we can't break down the opposition and not being able to convert the chances we do create; eventually we'd give up a goal and leave with a draw. Thru 2 matches, Mou has made attacking subs and has the squad killing the game off.

    So. Damn. Refreshing.

I'm sure the pragmatism will return, but it was these kinds of games that resulted in our finishing 6th last campaign. It's good to see we're better equipped to handle these kinds of matches (crossing my fingers).

I wouldn't necessarily call swapping an underperforming winger for another winger, and Mata for Fellaini an attacking substitution. The pragmatist is there, he just hasn't been needed yet.

Jose's teams always have he capability of playing brilliantly, the first half of his recent title winning season with us we were one of the highest scoring teams in Europe.

The difference is, and always will be, the players. Jose sets his teams up in a very specific fashion, and then gives them ultimate freedom in the attacking third. The result is that Jose's teams are hard to score against, but rely heavily on individual brilliance to win games. This is what happened to you guys last season, and what happened to us in Jose's final season, the players "let Jose down" because they couldn't consistently produce the individual brilliance required.

This season they will. Jose is a man manager first and foremost, and he will have you guys properly motivated for sure. I'd expect you guys to pick up at least 2 trophies this season. I also think Jose will stay longer than his usual 3 years.

He will get you guys back to the top, and when he leaves you guys will have quite the enticing package for whatever top level managers are available.

I'm not a Man United fan by any means, and I'm sure it won't be as easy moving forward as it's been against West Ham and Swansea. But damn, it's fun watching Matic, Mkhitaryan, and Pogba slice opponents up in the midfield. Mkhitaryan and Pogba look completely different so far this season. They're an entertaining team to watch if nothing else. It's going to be a damn fine season in the PL.

From the second a ball is touched against any other "top six" side, it most certainly will.

They are super entertaining to watch but I'm sure Mourinho saw the same thing every other manager did after watching them vs Swansea. They looked pretty flustered with Swansea's press with way too many panicky passes and lost possession. The formula seems to be stay away from Matic and attack the space vacated by Pogba's push forward with a confident left mid/wing back.

If they play as undisciplined as they did yesterday at Stamford Bridge, White Hart or even King Power, yesterday is an L, imo.

Morata really Welbeck'd that early chance.

Actually, that might be too harsh. He did get his head on the ball.

It'll be interesting to see if it they can mentally sort it out, as it seems rather mental at this point. They were able to get the pitch size reduced and it's now only a meter wider than the WHL pitch was.

Spurs can't even score a goal themselves to break this Wembley curse.

There isn't much difference between that Dier challenge and the one that Cahill saw red for vs Burnley.

                                Entertaining match. Suck it Spuds!
