I mean the score is tied at that point, it's not like you were winning and they were all bummed out.Comment

Re: 2018-19 UEFA Competitions Thread
When Liverpool scored the 2nd goal, the reaction of Messi says it all about the mental state of their team. They're still up 3-2, he's the captain, and he's looking all mopey and "here we go again". Same with Suarez. Almost like they're more annoyed with their defense ****ing them over instead of trying to figure out how to win the damn tie. Then VVD takes the ball off him with ease almost right from the kickoff and they go down and score again immediately.
Valverde needs to be gone. There is no way that can be the attitude your team can have with a trip to the Champions League Final on the line. Two years in a row they go into the 2nd leg of a tie where they're up 3 just expecting something to be handed to them. No, you EARN wins when it gets to this point.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 05-07-2019, 09:10 PM.Comment

I guess I probably have a bit more sympathy for him because he’s essentially doing what Hazard has been doing. When you are like 19 levels above the rest of your team and you are hard-carrying them every game, it’s probably a bit deflating when they do some dumb nonsense that leads to a goal.
I mean the first goal was a routine possession win for Barca, Liverpool guy who crossed it was even apologizing to his teammates because it was a bad cross that went right to a Barca player. Alba has all the time in the world, and just heads it right to Jordan Henderson.
Messi has already carried them to a league title this season, but there are probably only so many times he can watch his team do stuff like that before it gets to him.Comment

I guess, but then he shouldn't be wearing the armband if he isn't going to be an actual leader. And I guess that's not his fault, because the only other candidate in this match probably would've been Pique, who was just lol. Or Vidal, who can really be the only other player on Barca that can have his head up after this match.
And I didn't see anyone say anything about him in this thread, but Alisson was absolutely on point in this match. He made some pretty tough saves look routine. He showed a strong hand on more than one occasion. We absolutely concede with Karius or Migs in goal in this match. Probably more than once.
Also, on the first goal Alba headed it right to Mane, and Liverpool had A LOT to do to score a goal there. Henderson made an incredible play to take it under control from Mane who had to dink it over a defender, and Origi just Forrest Gumps himself into the right place like he has suddenly decided to do a few times this season.
Here you see Alba gets the picture in his head and never looks again as Mane anticipates what he's going to try to do. Then it's good play.

So I don't believe that was as much a gift as you've made it out to be. I mean maybe Alba should be heading it out of play, but he doesn't realize that Mane hasn't given up just because he's going to cut off the pass. When Alba looks Mane is basically running to the touch line.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 05-08-2019, 12:41 AM.Comment

I’ll be drinking and happily chanting for Liverpool to embarrass in a legendary way if it comes to that.Comment

I honestly would've said something re: Alisson, but it's also what I expect of him now? He's reached the keeper status with me where its surprising when he lets a goal in. He made truly wonderful saves though.Support Local Sports

@Tim at this level of play that’s a gift from Alba, but that goal ended up being more embarrassing for the rest of the defense imo.
Liverpool did very well there, and I’d agree they still had a lot to do to score, but those Barca defenders just sort of watched him dribble into the box lol. It was atrocious defending all around.
Agree on Alisson, he came up big under imo the hardest circumstances for a keeper; not having much to do. To me that’s always been the sign of a great keeper. Sounds weird, but it’s a bit easier to save shots when you get regularly peppered. You sort of get in the zone and then that’s all you need to concern yourself with. It’s one of the things that has always stood out with Neuer, it’s so much harder to have nothing to do and then all of a sudden be expected to make a huge save.Comment
