The collection of names alone, forgetting their squads, managers, etc. in 'Pot 2' is insanity.

Away goals rule has been scrapped for next year.

What they should have done is eliminate it in extra time only.

In theory it should help to open up ties where the away team scores first and then parks the bus. Chelsea have been both on the receiving and giving ends of this so I'm impartial.

But the reason they went to it was because of teams playing super defensive away from home, wasn't it? This will cause more games to be that way - especially in the first leg. It will also increase the number of ties that go to extra time and penalties. And the chance of upsets goes down.

This really seems like fixing something that wasn't really broken.

Not always away from home, sometimes, especially in the case of my Blues, we’ve played defensive at home after nicking an away goal.

For me, the better team should be the team that ends the two legs with more goals or wins on PKs. You draw 1-1 away and then 0-0 at home and you’re through. I can see the arguments that it’s harder to score an away goal but it’s a lil unfair for them to count double.

I won’t miss explaining the away rule to some of my newer soccer fans though

The chance of upsets definitely go down and I think that is part of the reasoning IMO. I read they had some stats about how Home Field advantage isn't what it use to be but I don't believe that. Tell that to the teams that have deal with Shakhtar in their group. With fans coming back it makes a difference.
