It is the thing to do, which is probably why I'm tired of it. I just feel like that moment of pure joy shouldn't feel so damn predictable and robotic. But everything is looked at through the lense of media and getting the right shot to put on the sports highlight show/10 second social media clip.

What’s the consensus from Arsenal fans at the end of the season?
Obviously, you would have taken 5th in the beginning of the season after two consecutive 8th place finishes but considering 4th was yours and you let it slip does it leave a bad taste in your mouth?

Excited for next season. We’re seriously looking at Gabriel Jesus and Tielemans, and Saliba looks set to be involved heavily.
4th place would’ve meant more cash, but I think we would’ve ended up in the Europa League after the group stage no matter what.
For ****s sake, we finished 11 points above Man United and their massive transfers while we, apparently, had no real transfer strategy.
Good season.Last edited by Krebstar; 05-24-2022, 09:27 PM.Comment

Can’t describe how annoying it is that Liverpool has finished 1 point behind City twice now while having fewer losses than them AND with more points than any SAF United team ever had. Ah well, what can ya do.Comment

They introduce VAR for the Championship Playoff Final and they completely bottle it. How do they not overturn John Moss there? Clear penalty. Huddersfield denied a chance of a late equalizer.
Another penalty shout and VAR doesn't even look at it!Last edited by ~LiverpoolRed~; 05-29-2022, 12:12 PM.Comment

Questionable refereeing aside, I am absolutely elated that Nottingham Forest are finally back in the PL. Brian Clough is among my favorites of all-time having read just about everything available about him, and Forest have always been my second team, and football manager team and just great to see them in the PL, even if it takes a bit of fun out of the FM part of my life.Support Local Sports

Re: 2021-2022 English Football Thread
Now that the season is over (for all comps) let’s play the “reflect on your season and the rest of the Top 6”…overachieve/underachieve/met expectations
Chelsea - Underachieved. Lukaku was supposed to at the very least close the gap on Pool/City with a lot of folks saying to compete for the league. The Cup runs were solid and we should have lifted at least one domestic Cup but considering all of the drama I’d give our season a pass.
City - Underachieved. Idc what anyone says, Pep was brought in to win the CL and his team once again bottled it although for me it was more on the players than Pep usually channeling his inner-tinker man.
Liverpool - Met expectations. I waffled between underachieved considering they lost the UCL final and missed out on the league by a point but they only lost something like 3 matches playing in the max # of matches while incorporating returning players and some new faces. Even though the parade was LOL, you grab whatever trophy you can get a hold of and that’s what you measure too managers & clubs by.
Spurs - Overachieved. Considering their botched hiring of Nuno I have to give them some credit for knowing early it wasn’t working and cutting the cord. Then going out and getting Conte and the two guys they picked up in Jan helped push them over the line. Despite 2 potentially world class players the rest of their squad is ehhh and Conte got the most of em.
Arsenal - Met Expectations. This was a tough one for me. Beginning of the year, most Arsenal fans would have taken 5th without question but given how they botched 4th and how awful United were I think it’s a huge opportunity lost in terms of player recruitment. I don’t think Arsenal would have done anything in the UCL because of depth issues but the player attraction that the UCL brings would have helped.
United - LOL

Re: 2021-2022 English Football Thread
I'm not sure who the hell was expecting the youngest squad in the league to finish 5th. Youngest squad by a whole year (Brentford being next) and they finished 5th, and fought for 4th.
Exceeded exceptions, 100%—not even close.Comment

You wouldn't have expected Arsenal to finish in a Europa league spot at the beginning of the season?Comment
