1000 penalty kicks sure didn’t help.

They had their chance to be one of 32 teams.
I get it. They had their chance.

Qualifying isn't always taken seriously though and there is too much football. That combination can lead to nations who absolutely have the talent to qualify missing out and it's mostly because of greed (too much football/qualifying/running these players ragged).

If I had my way, the World Cup would be just 8 countries. The 6 Federation champions and 2 hosts. I'd have 2 groups of 4 and play a double round robin in the group stage then go to knockouts. That'd be it.

I'm not advocating for 48 participants. I'm just trying to find some positive in it. Some people will complain no matter what. I try my best not to worry about stuff I can't control (I'm not saying you are doing either of those things, just clarifying my position).

The final act of the CRonaldo saga is getting a bit messy...

First the United soap opera...now he and the coach are playing stupid games with each other in the Knockout Stage?

                Not a good look.

On the bench tonight. If Portugal score, he'll still try to claim it.

Both United and Portugal play better when he doesn’t start this year.

He’s a lingering fart these days.

He did have one twin die during childbirth within the past year. I don’t care who you are or what resources you have. That’s going to affect every aspect of your life. Not an excuse, but it has to be a factor in what’s transpired surrounding him lately.

The person who gets fouled should be the one to take the pk. Not any of this picking whoever you want bs. Not only that it doesn't make common sense, but you also get these over inflated goal records and such. (not that I pay an oz of attention to any of that stuff)....just sayin

It will never happen but they should have two categories for goals one for run of play another for PK.

                          Weakest Spanish team in memory.

                            Disagree.

That would encourage fouling the player who is crap at FKs, essentially taking possession back with little risk.

EDIT: No idea how, but I read what you said as FK, not PK. I thought you were talking about direct free kicks. [emoji854]

I still disagree but for different reasons than what I stated. [emoji846]

                            It's already a thing.

                            FBref.com

You have "Gls" which are total goals, "G-PK" which are from run of play and "PK" which are, obviously, goals from penalty kicks.

I just started getting into soccer in the last couple years and I view the threads here a lot more than I post in them because I am still learning the sport and I hate making comments about things I don't fully understand.

But this is something that has always been weird to me, I get that it won't change but from my uninformed American mind it just makes sense to me that the person that was fouled should be the one to take the PK.

This isn't like basketball where a terrible foul shooter would be an easy target.

Why would we want to encourage more fouls?
