    Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread

What is Man United doing these days?!? It's like they're trying to tarnish their brand with all the situations going on, some very serious. The way they've handled the Greenwood situation has been awful (from the "hostile list", etc.) and now Antony is about to be charged with, potentially, three crimes of "abuse".

Way less serious, Ten Hag comes out to say the Onana play last week certainly wasn't a penalty and the officials got it right. Ten Hag said this AFTER the referee and VAR crew was not assigned to any games this weekend. I get it, you can't come out and say your keeper committed a foul, but at least just say "we got away with some things last week" and move on.

Something weird going on at Old Trafford...

So they call that a penalty, but last week a player stops the ball from possibly going into the net with his hand and it’s play on.

The standard of officiating in this league is straight up pathetic

Sounds like EPL needs to adopt some tactics of the lower league officiating: https://twitter.com/Pompey/status/1692921024138854658

From today's Porstmouth FC match: 57’ | A message has just gone out over the PA system for a qualified official to make themselves known… And a fan from the stands has just emerged to take over duties, so we should be fine!

At first I assumed NBC’s score big was broken but nope, a red card in each of the three early games, all to the home team.

Spurs look a lot more fluid without Harry Kane. Not sure if that makes them better or not yet.

I don’t think it has to do with Kane as much as it does with Ange. Conte, Nuno, and Mourinho we’re just awful defensive styled managers.

You put Kane in the 9 instead of Richarlson and they’re scoring 5 today.

Time for the first true test of the added time adjustment—will Newcastle force 20 minutes of total added time?!

I can't wait for the cycle to restart itself. Not win anything with Ange, and take a shot on a proven, pragmatic winner in a dire effort to win a trophy (sans winner for Nuno, but the rest applies).

Roy Keane with the beautiful double attack: “I think Man United are the new Spurs.”

Nobody plays their character better than Roy.

Yeah but who looked harder than him out there? Nobody, and that’s far more important than goals.

Him picking up more yellows last season for taking his shirt off celebrating goals than actual goals scored might be my favorite EPL stat ever.

EDIT: Always nice to pour a cup of coffee and see that Everton/Dyche are failing to start your day.

It's beautiful. If it were Everton, I'd be happy. A Dyche managed team? I'd be happy. Dyche managing Everton?! I'm elated! I'm going to go whistle the entire time I'm mowing the lawn.

I would rather watch Everton in the Championship, with SOME level of expectation. At least then their failure would be noteworthy. This is just another season where they will probably survive playing like they don't want to score goals.
