Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread
Someone please check on ten Hag—in the post-match press conference he again brought up not getting a penalty against Arsenal (in the league) on September 4. I'm almost convinced he's doing it as his own running gag at this point.Comment

You don’t understand Kreb, if they had gotten that penalty (not a penalty) then his whole life would have changed and they’d be running away with the league and he’d be having dinner with the royals and the cool girl at the other summer camp would finally notice him.Comment

Wellp that Sterling assist should be enough to secure his position for the next dozen gamesComment

Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread
I mean Arsenal had a high volume of fouls but there weren’t any that were particularly nasty. I think the only case for a yellow was the double Jorginho foul. Bernardo hacked down Saka that should have been a yellow.
Overall that’s what you get when there are 8 CBs and 4 DMs on the field. For all the possession City had they didn’t do anything of note with it. I thought Arsenal had the better chances.

At the end of the day, you should not be allowed to control a game through fouling. It doesn’t matter if none of them are nasty, being able to stop every single counter with an intentional foul that goes unpunished has a massive impact on the game.
We’ve had tons of convos about this in here and usually everyone agrees, but I get that people hate City a lot.
Arsenal was whistled for 20 fouls this game and got 2 yellow cards, both of which were for time wasting. Are we saying that’s fine? City was whistled 9 times for 0 cards.
I’m all for letting them play as much as possible, but this is too far in that direction and has an unarguable impact on the game.Comment

I mean, outside two players, you could say the same thing about the way Newcastle play but the conversation is somehow completely different.

You’re not wrong in general, just wrong about this being the game to complain about lol.
On the whole, City don’t counter apart from the occasional through ball to Halaand because they have no pace. If City is going to pass sideways 400x a match and Arsenal is going to counter-press than you’re going to see City players get fouled since they are so technical when it comes to close control.
When I saw Anthony Taylor was on the call today I immediately thought he’d fck it up but I don’t think he was bad, partly because he didn’t have much to do.

Arsenal stop City scoring at home for the first time since October 2021 but fouls, gotta talk about fouls, and a vague mention to ‘drama’ or some nonsense?
