Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread
I'm glad the meme mocking his accent as he attempted to learn English and its linguistic traits has lived on, even after he spoke publicly regarding the language barrier being one of the reasons he struggled at Arsenal.
I know, it's all in the name of fun, but it's predicated on "Look, this man said English words in a funny way." If you want to tease Arsenal for losing twice to a team managed by their former manager, it's very possible to do without perpetuating that ridiculous meme.Last edited by Krebstar; 04-15-2024, 09:56 AM.Comment

Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread
Look
His English is better then my Spanish but if people can mock Ange and his “mate mate mate” Aussie accent than we can have a giggle at Unai for his accent.
Besides, it was your fans that started it.

1. If you can't tell, I'm still just a bit pissed about the result.
2. Arsenal supporters did start it, but many of us hated it from the start. Since his departure, I did see a more understanding of how stupid it was to mock him (no matter the context/lightheartedness) amongst Arsenal supporters.
3. I'd say it's slightly different than Ange, as he's not speaking a different language. I may have said something about Ange on here before, and that's just that I think he intentionally plays up his 'mate mate mate' which mostly comes from my best friend, who is Australian, mentioning that it seems very put on and intentional. Plus, with Unai, I saw it far more commonly used to mock him and point out that he seemed confused and couldn't speak properly, etc.
4. There's so much to unpack and talk about from that result, whether it's Arsenal's performance first half versus second, title implications, etc. In the age of manager carousel, I'm just over the whole former manager returns to beat his old club narrative.
5. If you can't tell, I'm still just a bit pissed about the result.Comment

Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread
He’s the closest thing I’ve seen to Thierry. The way he moves, dribbles, opens his body up when shooting, etc… is all Henry’eqsue.
He just can’t stay healthy
