T.J.'s Time Machine - NBA Jam

T.J. Cutini checks in after a one week hiatus and takes us back in time once more, this time to 1993 and NBA Jam.

    Oh My!!! He's on FIRE!!!!
This game still holds up to this day. One of the all around great arcade classics ever made.

I liked going with the Hornets. Larry Johnson and 'Zo. It was good stuff.

I'm not going to lie, when putting this together for the frontpage I got a sudden urge to play this game again. I think this game could stand up to the competition even today. NBA Street or NBA Jam.....hmmmmmm

Man, I loved this game on the Genesis and the Playstation! The start of the 'Big Head' player phenomenon!

That game was an all time great and tons of fun. After reading that article, I think I'm going to fire it up tonight. I'm pretty sure I still have a PS1 or PS2 version. Good article TJ.

LJ and Zo weren't on the original arcade game. The Hornets had Johnson and former Illinois star Kendall Gill. It wasn't until the game was released on SNES and Genesis that they substituted the original KG for Alonzo Mourning.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I had a lot of fun writing this one.

Before Zo hit the scene in T.E. Id go with the Celtics and the late, great, Reggie Lewis. RIP.
One thing I remeber was going into the arcade and seeing your name and win-loss record scroll by, and then calculating how much $ youve spent

According to the wikipedia page, Chuck was only in the original arcade version. He was left out of all the console versions. I seem to remember him being one of those "not licensed by the NBAPA" guys.

I thought it was because Midway lost his rights to Accolade when he made Shut Up and Jam?

                            He's warming up!

Man I used to play the hell out of this game with my friends...trying to find all the dunk spots to get different dunks...such a fun game, yet had some depth when playing against each other. It's kinda sad that for whatever reason this type of game just doesn't do it anymore for people.

TJ, lay off on my boys Mark Turmell and Sal Divita! How sad is it that my friends and I would use these just because they were unlockable, and therefore "cool"

You know, that's a really great point. I just remember back in the day that in NBA Live, there was no MJ, no Shaq (for a while), and I was pretty sure no Barkley. You very well could be right that his "Shut Up and Jam" contract prevented him from being in any other video game.
