Peter Moore Is Leaving EA for Liverpool FC

Today, Liverpool FC announced Peter Moore as their new CEO. Moore, a huge Liverpool fan, has landed what might be his dream job.

Moore, currently the Chief Competition Officer for EA, will start his new job in June.

"Liverpool-born Moore will take up his new role in June and report directly to the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group.

The 61-year-old is currently chief competition officer at Electronic Arts, based in the United States, and will move to Liverpool to join the club in the summer. His nearly 10 years at EA have seen him in a number of leadership positions, including chief operating officer and president of EA SPORTS.

Moore has previously held senior roles with Microsoft, SEGA and Reebok. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Keele University in the UK and a master’s degree from California State University.

The appointment completes a 10-month transition plan by FSG and finalises the senior management structure at the club."

Moore's departure comes as eSports has begun an upward swing in sports gaming. The new head of EA's competition division will certainly play a huge role in how all of EA's titles respond to the growing market.

We'll be keeping an eye on it.

UPDATE: (2-28) Andrew Wilson, Chief Executive Officer, has posted a thank you note at EA, including some details on the leadership transition.

In the weeks to come, Peter will continue to guide EA’s Competitive Gaming Division in its mission to make stars of all of our players. Peter has built a fantastic team that is now running dozens of global tournaments and events with millions of players. With more exciting expansion plans on the horizon, Peter will be working with the teams to drive a leadership transition before he returns to the UK this summer.

Never liked Peter Moore. Found him to be an empty suit. Not a real gamer who lives and breathes games like, for example, the guys at CD Projekt Red, best games company ever by the way. Instead he was one of those corporate guys that used pie charts and graphs to justify why certain games were on certain platforms etc... One of those guys.

If he does for Liverpool what he did for the Genre of video game Football, Liverpool fans are in trouble. He did bring EA a lot of success though, knows how to run a tight ship.

I have committed to not buying Madden until it is on PC again. I have not played one down of Madden 17(did not purchase). EA is missing the boat on PC it is a totally different market than when they scrapped Madden PC in 07 or whatever year that was(last release Madden 08)

Peter Moore was employed by Microsoft from 2003 to 2007 as the head of their fledgling XBOX brand; after he left for EA, he was succeeded by Don Mattrick. To that end, Moore had nothing to do with the NFL exclusivity negotiations. If anything, Moore's high-level steering as the head of EA Sports (and later EA in general) helped to right the Madden NFL ship after a rocky Gen-3 presence to the far more stable and mechanically robust Gen-4 games we enjoy today.

Heck, Electronic Arts as a total humongous company is in better shape and has a better reputation than it did even two years ago, especially with recent quality releases such as Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, Unravel, and so on. In fact, EA was the top-ranked publisher on Metacritic in 2016, rising from 7th the previous year. Moore's leadership no doubt influenced those positive changes.
