The New York Yankees staved off elimination, beating the Tigers 6-3 at home in game 4 of the ALCS. Cedric Mullins homered twice, and drove in 4. Josh Donaldson also drove in a pair of runs. Jordam Montgomery pitched 6.1 innings allowing only 2 runs on 9 hits.

New York opened the scoring when Mullins led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run. They added 3 runs in the second, on a Mullins RBI double, and a Donaldson 2 run single, and led 4-0 after 2 innings. The Tigers got 2 back in the 4th, on Spencer Torkelson's 2 run home run. Mullins put the Yanks back up by 4 with a 2 run home run in the 7th off Andrew Chafin. Javier Baez homered in the top of the 8th, to cut it to a 3 run lead, but the Tigers could get no closer. Eduardo Rodriguez took the loss.

Game 5 will be Thursday night at Yankee Stadium. The Tigers send Casey Mize to the mound. He will oppose Gerrit Cole of the Yankees in a rematch of Game 1. The Tigers won that game 13-4.

Over in the National League, the Mets won game 5 1-0 over the Dodgers, taking a 3 games to 2 lead in that series. Game 6 will be Friday night in New York. Chris Bassitt goes for the Mets against Walker Buehler of the Dodgers.
