Undefeated Lions Power Past Giants, Stay Perfect at 11-0
By Tim Twentyman, | Detroit Free Press
DETROIT – The Detroit Lions just keep rolling. Jared Goff tossed three touchdown passes, Amon-Ra St. Brown delivered another star performance, and the Lions’ defense clamped down in the second half as Detroit stayed unbeaten with a 38-21 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday at Ford Field.
The Lions (11-0) came out hot, racing to a 21-0 lead on touchdowns from David Montgomery, Sam LaPorta, and St. Brown. The Giants punched back with two quick scores before halftime, cutting the deficit to 21-14, but Detroit seized control after the break.
Offense in rhythm
Goff was in command, completing 27 of 37 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns. St. Brown continued his All-Pro caliber season with 11 catches for 110 yards and two scores. Montgomery added two rushing touchdowns, while rookie Jahmyr Gibbs eclipsed the century mark with 100 yards on 22 carries.
Defense delivers late
New York rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart kept things interesting with two touchdown strikes to Wan’Dale Robinson, including a 50-yarder late in the third quarter. But Aidan Hutchinson and the Lions’ defensive front responded, shutting the door in the fourth. Hutchinson finished with three sacks, and Detroit held the Giants to just 247 total yards and a paltry 2-of-9 on third down.
Eyes on the top seed
With the win, the Lions maintained their perfect record and tightened their grip on the NFC’s top spot. While they haven’t clinched the conference’s No. 1 seed yet, Detroit controls its own destiny — and Sunday’s performance looked like the effort of a team built for January.
Dan Campbell Postgame Speech (vs. Giants, Week 12)
“Fellas… 11 and 0. Eleven. And. Oh.
We talked all week about handling our business, and you did just that. We punched ‘em in the mouth early, we took their best shot in the second quarter, and then we slammed the door. That’s what great teams do. That’s what we do.
Look at the way we finished — offense grinding clock, defense hunting, special teams giving us field position. That’s complementary football. That’s Detroit Lions football.
Jared — ice in your veins, man. Three touchdowns, spread the ball around, kept us moving. That’s command of this offense.
Saint — you just keep proving you’re one of the baddest dudes in this league. Eleven catches, 110, two scores. Every damn week, you bring it.
And Hutch… three sacks. Relentless. You set the tone for that front, and they couldn’t handle you.
So here’s what we’re gonna do. Three game balls tonight.
One for our quarterback — Jared Goff.
One for our spark plug — Amon-Ra St. Brown.
And one for our war daddy up front — Aidan Hutchinson.
But listen, fellas… this ain’t about just three guys. This is about all of us. Eleven and oh don’t mean s*** if we don’t finish. We’re hunting something bigger. We want that top seed, we want that bye, and we want to bring this thing back to Detroit for January.
So enjoy it tonight — but tomorrow, it’s back to work. We’re not done yet. Not even close.
Now break it down! ONE PRIDE on three… ONE, TWO, THREE — ONE PRIDE!”
