Lions feast on Packers in Thanksgiving Day rout, stay unbeaten at 12-0

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions turned their annual Thanksgiving Day showcase into a statement game. Behind a brilliant four-touchdown performance from Jared Goff and a suffocating defensive effort, the Lions thrashed the Green Bay Packers 45-6 at Ford Field to remain perfect at 12-0.
Goff carved up Green Bay’s secondary, completing 28 of 38 passes for 396 yards and four touchdowns without a turnover. He spread the ball around, but his favorite targets were tight end Sam LaPorta, who caught two first-half touchdowns, and wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, who posted 11 catches for 113 yards and a score. Jameson Williams added the knockout blow early in the fourth quarter with a 33-yard touchdown catch.
“We wanted to put on a show for our fans today, and the guys responded,” head coach Dan Campbell said afterward. “That was physical, clean, and tough football—exactly how we want to play.”
The Lions’ defense matched the offense’s intensity. Linebacker Derrick Barnes delivered the play of the day in the fourth quarter, jumping a Jordan Love pass and racing 45 yards for a pick-six that put Detroit up 38-6. Rookie linebacker Jack Campbell led the unit with 14 tackles and five tackles for loss, while Aidan Hutchinson and the defensive front consistently disrupted the pocket.
Jahmyr Gibbs kept the ground game rolling, rushing 17 times for 96 yards and a 12-yard touchdown that capped the scoring. David Montgomery chipped in with 51 rushing yards on just eight carries, giving Detroit a balanced attack that finished with 534 total yards.
The Packers (6-6) found occasional success with running back Josh Jacobs, who ran for 110 yards, but their offense stalled repeatedly in the red zone. Love finished 24 of 41 for just 190 yards and one interception. Green Bay’s only points came on a pair of Brandon McManus field goals.
Detroit led 17-3 at halftime, but after St. Brown’s touchdown late in the third quarter, the floodgates opened. The Lions scored 28 unanswered points in the final 16 minutes, turning what had been a grind into a blowout.
With the win, the Lions improve to 12-0 for the first time in franchise history, continuing a dream season that has them firmly in control of the NFC’s top seed. Green Bay, meanwhile, fell back to .500 and saw its playoff hopes take a hit.
“Look, we’re not satisfied,” Goff said. “We’ve got bigger goals, but games like this show what we’re capable of.”
The Lions will look to keep their undefeated run alive next Sunday when they host the Dallas Cowboys in a high-profile NFC matchup. The Packers return home to Lambeau Field to face the Chicago Bears.
Dan Campbell’s Locker Room Speech (postgame, Ford Field):
“Fellas… come on in, bring it up.
That’s how you defend your house on Thanksgiving. That’s how you put the whole damn league on notice. Physical. Relentless. Smart. Every single one of you emptied the tank today, and you saw what happens when we play four full quarters of Lions football — they can’t hang with us.
Jared — cool as ice, dropped dimes all over the field. Four touchdowns, no mistakes. You kept the gas pedal down and made them pay. That’s veteran leadership, that’s championship-level quarterback play.
Amon-Ra, LaPorta, Jameson — you boys ate today. You won your matchups and you broke their will. And Gibbs? Man, you slammed the door shut with that touchdown. That’s finishing.
Defense… Barnes with the pick-six? That was a dagger. Jack Campbell, 14 tackles, five for a loss? That’s a grown man game. Hutch, Reader, Anzalone, the whole front — they couldn’t breathe back there. That’s what it looks like when you take the fight to somebody.
Special teams — clean, sharp, no mistakes. Jake [Bates] nails every kick. Fox flips the field. Doubs tries to run it back and we stone him every time. That’s team ball.
Now listen — we’re 12-0. That’s special. That’s history. But I’ll tell you this: 12-0 doesn’t mean a damn thing if we let up now. This isn’t the finish line. This is a checkpoint. We’ve got Dallas coming into our house next week. National stage again. They’re going to treat it like their Super Bowl, and I’ll be damned if we let them take that from us in our backyard.
Enjoy tonight. Eat the turkey, hug your families, soak it in. You earned it. But tomorrow? Tomorrow we get back to work, because we are on a mission.
We’re the Detroit Lions, and we are not backing down from anyone. EVER.”

PRESS CONFERENCE
Dan Campbell: Opening Statement
“Man, hell of a win. That’s the kind of performance you want to see on Thanksgiving in front of our fans, our families, and everybody watching across the country. We played complementary football — offense, defense, special teams, all three phases clicking. That was four quarters of Lions football. I’m proud of our guys. But listen, we’ve got bigger goals. We’re 12-0, but we’re not satisfied.”
Reporter 1: Dan, Jared Goff throws for almost 400 yards and four touchdowns. What stood out to you about his performance today?
Campbell: “Jared was surgical. Calm, decisive, just kept the offense on schedule. He took what was there, and when it was time to take a shot, he let it rip. He had total command, and that’s what you want from your quarterback. That’s winning football.”
Reporter 2: Sam LaPorta had two touchdowns today. In his third year now, how has he grown into this role?
Campbell: “Sam’s just rock solid. He’s not a surprise anymore — he’s proven. He’s one of Jared’s most trusted guys because he does everything the right way. He’ll put his face in the fan in the run game, he’ll run crisp routes, he’s reliable in the red zone, and he’s tough as hell. Year 3, he’s really taken ownership of being one of our leaders on offense.”
Reporter 3: Amon-Ra St. Brown had another big day with 11 catches, over 100 yards and a touchdown. Is it just automatic at this point?
Campbell: “That guy’s a machine. He’s consistent week after week, and it’s because of how he prepares. He doesn’t take a rep off in practice, he doesn’t take a play off in games. He’s our tone-setter. You want to know what Lions football looks like? Watch him play.”
Reporter 4: Derrick Barnes had that pick-six in the fourth quarter. How big was that for momentum?
Campbell: “Huge. That was the dagger. That’s complementary football — the offense builds the lead, the defense slams the door. Barnes has been a grinder for us since day one, and it was awesome to see him get that moment on Thanksgiving. He earned it.”
Reporter 5: Jack Campbell had 14 tackles, five of them for loss. What did you see from him?
Campbell: “Jack’s in year three, and it shows. The game’s slowed down for him. He’s reading things faster, he’s playing with confidence, and he’s finishing. He’s physical, instinctive, and you can feel his presence. That’s exactly what we hoped he’d become in the middle of our defense.”
Reporter 6: Jahmyr Gibbs iced the game with that late touchdown. How has he developed now that he’s in year three?
Campbell: “You can see the growth. Year three, he’s got a feel for everything — pass protection, vision, when to hit it and when to be patient. And he’s still explosive. He’s a home-run threat every touch, but now he’s also reliable in the tough yards. He and Monty (David Montgomery) together give us a hell of a one-two punch.”
Reporter 7: Coach, 12-0 is the best start in franchise history. How do you keep the team grounded?
Campbell: “We don’t even talk about 12-0. It’s always about the next one. You respect the work, you put in the work, and you earn the right to win. That’s our mindset. Dallas is next. That’s all that matters.”
Reporter 8: Speaking of Dallas, they’re coming into Ford Field next week in another national game. What kind of challenge do they present?
Campbell: “They’re a hell of a team. Explosive on offense, physical on defense, and they’ve got playmakers everywhere. We know what’s coming. But it’s another chance for us, at home, to show who we are. Our guys love these moments.”
Reporter 9: Coach, fans are already whispering Super Bowl with this group. Do you let yourself think that far ahead?
Campbell: “No. Not for one second. You start looking ahead, you trip over the step right in front of you. We live in the moment, we live in the work. If we stay true to that, the rest will take care of itself.”
