Lions roll past Rams, move to 14-0 with balanced attack
By [Detroit Free Press Sports Staff]

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Another week, another statement win.

The Detroit Lions kept their perfect season intact with a 42-20 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, riding an explosive offense and a timely defensive touchdown to improve to 14-0.

Jahmyr Gibbs set the tone early, scoring on a 1-yard plunge and later breaking free for a 46-yard touchdown run. The second-year back finished with 106 yards on 18 carries and two scores, giving Detroit control of the ground game. Jared Goff was equally sharp against his former team, completing 21 of 26 passes for 285 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Goff spread the ball around, but leaned on his reliable stars. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught eight passes for 107 yards and a touchdown, while Jameson Williams delivered a highlight-reel 56-yard reception and added a 20-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter. Rookie tight end Sam LaPorta capped the scoring with a 6-yard TD catch in the fourth.

The defense provided the knockout blow. With Detroit already leading comfortably, linebacker Jack Campbell scooped up a Rams fumble and raced 81 yards for a touchdown, sending the Lions sideline into celebration. Campbell finished with a team-high 11 tackles. Kerby Joseph added an interception to keep Matthew Stafford in check.

Stafford threw for 270 yards and two scores, connecting with Davante Adams on a 26-yard strike and Blake Corum on a short TD late, but the Rams couldn’t match Detroit’s efficiency. The Lions won the turnover battle 2-1 and held Los Angeles to 113 rushing yards.

Detroit now returns home for a Week 15 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-8) next Sunday at Ford Field. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m.

Dan Campbell’s Postgame Locker Room Speech

“FELLAS! FELLAS! LISTEN UP!

We just walked into their house, across the country, and we SMASHED ‘em. Forty-two points on the board, defense taking one back to the HOUSE, and we walked out with our 14th straight win. That’s how you send a message to this whole league — they don’t wanna line up against us.

Gibbs — man, you set the tone. You ripped off that big run and never looked back. Monty, you kept pounding ‘em. That one-two punch right there, that’s a nightmare for anybody.

Goff — you were in total command. You lit ‘em up, spread it around, and put the dagger in your old team. That’s some cold-blooded stuff right there.

Amon-Ra, Jamo, LaPorta — every time we needed a spark, you gave it. And St. Brown, I don’t care who they put on you, you find a way.

And how about our DEFENSE? Jack freakin’ Campbell, 81 yards with the convoy to the end zone. That’s how you turn a football game into a beatdown. Kerby, big takeaway. Front seven, Stafford’s gonna feel you tomorrow morning.

Now listen — 14-0 feels good, but it doesn’t mean a damn thing if we let up now. We got the Steelers coming into OUR house next week. They’re gonna scrap, they’re gonna claw, they’re gonna play desperate. And we’re gonna give ‘em four quarters of hell.

I told you this from day one — this team is built different. Tough, resilient, relentless. Every man in here has answered the call, week after week. And we’re not done.

Enjoy this one tonight, you’ve earned it. But tomorrow? We reload. We get ready to defend our turf. Because we’re not slowing down, not for anybody.

LIONS on three! One… two… three…”

Dan Campbell Postgame Press Conference
Lions 42, Rams 20 – SoFi Stadium

Opening Statement:
“Man, I’m proud of this group. That’s a damn good football team we just played, and we came into their house and imposed our will. We ran it, we threw it, we took the ball away, and we finished. That’s the type of performance you want in December. We’re sitting at 14-0, but all that means is we get another opportunity next week to keep building. That’s the mindset.”

Reporter 1: Coach, your team controlled this game from the opening drive. What stood out most to you about the performance?

Campbell: “The balance. Offense, defense, special teams — everybody contributed. Offensively, Gibbs and Monty set the tone. Goff was efficient, took what was there, and our receivers made plays. Defensively, we bent at times but came up with huge stops and a turnover for a touchdown. That’s complementary football, man.”

Reporter 2: Jahmyr Gibbs had over 100 rushing yards and two scores. How important has his growth been this season?

Campbell: “He’s becoming a complete back. Early on he was learning the league, now he’s dictating to the defense. He’s got the vision, the patience, the burst — but more than that, he’s running tough between the tackles. He sets the tone, and he feeds off Monty. That duo wears people out.”

Reporter 3: Jared Goff had three touchdowns against his former team. Did you get the sense this one meant more to him?

Campbell: “You know, Jared doesn’t make it about himself. He prepares the same every week. But I’ll tell you this — he was locked in, man. You could feel it. He made big-time throws, managed the game, kept us moving. That’s what you want from your quarterback in December.”

Reporter 4: The defensive touchdown from Jack Campbell seemed to swing the momentum for good. What did you see on that play?

Campbell: “Effort, man. Just effort and awareness. Ball comes out, and Jack scoops it like he’s been doing it his whole life, then he’s got the convoy down the sideline. Plays like that break an opponent’s back. It was huge, and that’s why we believe in this defense — they don’t just stop you, they find ways to flip the game.”

Reporter 5: You’ve mentioned 14-0 doesn’t mean anything yet. How do you keep this team grounded with so much outside noise?

Campbell: “We live in the moment, man. We’ve talked about this since training camp — don’t look ahead, don’t look behind. Every week is its own fight. If you start chasing perfection or listening to the hype, you lose focus. We’ve got the Steelers coming in next week. That’s it. That’s all that matters.”

Reporter 6: Speaking of Pittsburgh, they’re a 6-8 team fighting for their playoff lives. What do you expect?

Campbell: “They’re gonna come in desperate. They’re physical, they’re well-coached, and they’re not gonna lay down for anybody. We’ll have to match that intensity and then some. It’s another opportunity for us to prove who we are in front of our fans.”

Reporter 7: Jack Campbell, Kerby Joseph, several defenders had strong games. How much pride do you take in the balance of this roster?

Campbell: “That’s the beauty of it. It’s not just one guy carrying us. Different players step up every week. That’s how you win in this league over and over again. Depth, toughness, and guys ready to make a play when their number’s called.”

Closing Statement:
“Alright, appreciate you guys. Hell of a team win, we’ll get back to Detroit, regroup, and get ready for Pittsburgh. One game at a time, that’s the only way we know.”
