Undefeated Lions steamroll Steelers, move to 15-0
By Detroit Free Press Sports Staff
DETROIT — Another week, another demolition.
The Detroit Lions overwhelmed the Pittsburgh Steelers, 54-14, on Sunday at Ford Field, extending their perfect season to 15-0 with one of their most complete performances of the year.
Jared Goff carved up the Steelers’ secondary, completing 25 of 34 passes for 367 yards and four touchdowns. The veteran quarterback spread the wealth, connecting twice with Isaac TeSlaa — including a 64-yard strike on the opening drive — and finding Amon-Ra St. Brown for a 21-yard score. St. Brown finished with nine receptions for 156 yards, while TeSlaa added 86 yards and two touchdowns.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs delivered another electric performance, piling up 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 18 carries. He also caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Goff in the third quarter, giving him three total scores on the day. David Montgomery chipped in 78 rushing yards as Detroit piled up 247 yards on the ground.
And then there was kicker Jake Bates, who drilled field goals from 60, 65, 55 and 24 yards, continuing his breakout season.
Defensively, Detroit suffocated Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers offense. Rodgers threw for just 111 yards with one touchdown and one interception, while Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren were bottled up on the ground. Alex Anzalone led the Lions with 11 tackles, while Aidan Hutchinson racked up three sacks as Detroit controlled the line of scrimmage.
By halftime, the Lions were already up 34-7 and never looked back.
Detroit (15-0) now turns its attention to a Christmas weekend showdown at the Minnesota Vikings (9-6). Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. next Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Dan Campbell storms into the locker room, voice booming over the music and chaos. Players are already hooting and hollering after the 54–14 beatdown.
Campbell:
“HELL YES, MEN! THAT’S DETROIT LIONS FOOTBALL! You came out, you set the tone, and you never let up. That’s grit. That’s fight. That’s what it looks like when you impose your will for four straight quarters!”
(Locker room roars, helmets slam against lockers, guys chest-bumping.)
Campbell (pointing around the room):
“Defense — you suffocated ‘em. Rodgers couldn’t breathe back there. Hutch bringing the heat, Anzalone all over the field, Branch blowing stuff up. That’s how you choke a team out. Special teams — Bates, four field goals, bombs from 60-plus like it’s nothing. That’s a weapon right there!”
(Teammates pound the kicker’s shoulder pads as he grins.)
Campbell (grabs the first game ball, voice sharp):
“First one — the guy driving this whole damn ship. Four touchdowns, almost 370 through the air, spreading it around like a surgeon. Jared Goff, baby!”
(Locker room explodes, teammates mob Goff, dumping water bottles on him as he lifts the ball and yells.)
Campbell (holding the second ball high):
“Next one — the spark plug, the playmaker, the guy who flat-out broke their backs. Over 160 on the ground, two scores, and a 67-yard dagger that took the soul out of ‘em. Jahmyr freakin’ Gibbs!”
(Gibbs gets swallowed up by the RB group, teammates chanting “GIBBS! GIBBS! GIBBS!”)
Campbell (grins, raising the third ball):
“And last one — our heartbeat, our chain-mover, our tone-setter. Nine catches, 156 yards, and a touchdown that ripped their heart out. Amon-Ra ‘THE SUN GOD’ St. Brown!”
(St. Brown flexes as teammates mob him, chanting “SUN GOD! SUN GOD!” while he slams the ball to the ground in celebration.)
Campbell (voice rising to a roar):
“Fellas, 15-and-0. That’s history right there. But don’t get it twisted — we ain’t done. Minnesota’s next, they’ll give us everything they’ve got, and we’re gonna hit back harder. This train ain’t stoppin’, and nobody’s knockin’ us off these tracks!”
Campbell (punches the air, fist raised):
“LIONS ON THREE!”
Team (screaming):
“ONE, TWO, THREE — LIONS!!”

DAN CAMPBELL PRESS CONFERENCE
Campbell (opening statement):
“Man… that’s about as complete of a game as we’ve played all year. Offense, defense, special teams — everybody pulled their weight. Goff was lights out, Gibbs was electric, Amon-Ra… he’s just a warrior. Defense got after Rodgers all night, Bates is out there hitting 60-yarders like it’s nothing. That’s what I’m talkin’ about. That’s Detroit Lions football. Now, fire away.”
Reporter 1: Dan, what impressed you most about Jared Goff today?
Campbell:
“Poise. That’s the word. He was calm, in control, knew exactly where to go with the ball. Four touchdowns, no turnovers, spread it around to everybody. When he plays like that, we’re tough to beat. He’s the commander of the ship, man, and he’s got this thing steered in the right direction.”
Reporter 2: Jahmyr Gibbs had over 200 total yards and three touchdowns. How do you even describe his impact?
Campbell (grinning):
“He’s a freakin’ lightning bolt. Every time he touches it, something explosive can happen. That 67-yarder in the fourth — that’s not just speed, that’s vision, toughness, finishing runs. He’s growing every week, and we’re feeding him because he’s earned it.”
Reporter 3: Amon-Ra St. Brown seems to elevate his game every week. What can you say about his performance?
Campbell:
“Look, I’ve said it before: he’s the heartbeat of this team. Nine catches, 156, a touchdown, but it’s not just the stats. It’s the way he blocks, the way he practices, the standard he sets for everybody. He’s our tone-setter. He embodies everything we’re about.”
Reporter 4: Defensively, you held Aaron Rodgers to just 111 yards passing. What worked so well today?
Campbell:
“We hit him. We kept hitting him. Hutch was relentless, the interior got push, Anzalone flying around. And on the back end, guys covered. When you make Rodgers uncomfortable, you take away their whole rhythm. And I thought our guys played disciplined — very few busts, very few freebies. That’s a team effort.”
Reporter 5: Jake Bates hit from 60, 65, and 55 yards today. Do you ever stop being amazed by him?
Campbell (laughs):
“I mean, I’m not sure he’s human. The guy’s got ice in his veins. Sixty-five yards, into pressure, and he bangs it like it’s a PAT. That’s a weapon, and we’re not afraid to use it. He changes the math on how we play.”
Reporter 6: Dan, you’re 15-0 now. How do you balance celebrating a win like this with keeping the team focused on the bigger goal?
Campbell (leans forward, serious):
“We’re gonna enjoy this tonight, no doubt. But come tomorrow, it’s all about Minnesota. That’s the beauty of this group — they don’t get caught up in the noise. They’re hungry. We know what’s in front of us, but we’re not skipping steps. Vikings, Christmas weekend, division rival, that’s all that matters right now.”
Reporter 7: Do you think about resting guys with the playoffs locked up, or are you pushing for 17-0?
Campbell:
“Look, we’re gonna be smart with our guys’ health, always. But make no mistake — we’re not letting up. We’re not built that way. Every game matters, every rep matters. We’re here to finish what we started, and our players wouldn’t want it any other way.”
[Campbell bangs the table once, stands up.]
“Alright, that’s it. Appreciate y’all. Merry Christmas if I don’t see you before then. On to Minnesota.”
