CPU running game and play calling
How do you get the CPU to have a better run balance? I’m seeing 70 percent passing at best and sometimes 80 percent of total plays are passes. Is it a playbook issue? Should I use Titan playbook for every team? Also I have CPU run block on 65 all pro and it seems they are blown up behind line when they do run and CPU lineman are missing tons of blocks. Anyone else seeing this?Tags: None -

I just had a game where the Bills passed 17 times in a row at the start of a game. -
Re: CPU running game and play calling
Run/pass ratios are crazy. I can’t see a way to change this unfortunately. But I REALLY wish it was possible. I’ve been banging the drum for us to be able to set custom playbooks to CPU teams for a while now. I really think that would go a long way to solving this issue.

Re: CPU running game and play calling
Giving the CPU the Jets playbook should do the trick. I've tested 3 times in game and see lots of CPU runs.
I believe from supersimming that giving them the Ravens or Colts playbook should do the same trick, but I have not tested that in game at this point. Would welcome feedback on that actually.
I would like to test the Ravens PB on the CPU anyway - hopefully use it whenever the CPU QB is a good runner - Lamar, Kyler, Jalen etc.
Hope that helps. What would Blackie Lawless do?Comment

Re: CPU running game and play calling
Just tested a game giving the AI the Bal Ravens playbook - using the Seattle Seahawks.
Carson ran 19 times, Lock ran 15 times. Lock only dropped back to pass 18 times.
If anything that is too run heavy, although if you are facing a running threat QB then giving them the Ravens playbook will be fairly realistic and make you keep a QB spy on defence.
I will try the Colts playbook next to see if that also generates lots of AI runs alongside the Jets and Ravens PB's.What would Blackie Lawless do?Comment

Re: CPU running game and play calling
Until they add some sort of coaching slider or have the coaching engine be more adaptive to down, score, time I don’t think the CPU play calling will be realistic. Right now at mercy of playbooks and CPU does not use the whole playbook. This is another legacy issue that will take a complete overhaul of how they do things to change.Comment

Re: CPU running game and play calling
EA doesn't care about CPU play calling. They never have. We were complaining about this stuff 20 years ago. EA has the ability to work on this if they wanted to....they are smart enough. There a far more complex things they are able to handle. But for basic CPU strategy, they just don't care.Comment

Re: CPU running game and play calling
I will say, in fairness here, for the Bills, that's pretty close to realistic. The Bills are 26th in rushing attempts this season.
But yes, that is ridiculous.I just finished a game against the Rams where they only ran it 9 times the entire game. Stafford had 49 pass attempts.
The craziest thing to me is how we've never been given sliders for any of this stuff and we've wanted it for 20 years.Atlanta Braves

Well for starters I have CPU run-block on 75 and also have user Tackling at 25, plus I’m usering the Lions who have garbage run D, so that might color things here a bit. But overall I’d still argue a lot of it comes down to user playcalling & execution.
I see incredible balance from the cpu tbh, and can post plenty of box scores to prove it if you’re skeptical.
Since you didn’t provide much detail, I’m gonna assume you’re going through that phase where the CPU QB is like 38 for 43 with 346 yards while their RB has like 12 carries for 18 yards, that kind of thing?
I’ve played a hundred games like that too, and what finally broke me out of the cycle was to just outright dismiss their running game and focus 100% on stopping the pass. Since they “can’t run” anyway, why am I ever running a 4-3 or 3-4 out there? Just play the pass 100% of the time.
We might also call this idea “defensive balance” — in the sense that YOU have to be balanced on defense (equally capable against the run and pass) if you expect them to be balanced. You can’t stuff tf out of their every attempt to run and then turn around and say “they should run the ball more,” nor can you expect them to run more if they’re getting anything they want through the air.
It’s kinda like, you gotta give them a reason to run the ball in the first place. They’re not just gonna rush it 35 times by default like it’s 1976.Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.Comment
