Madden Needs to Implement the 2K VIP System

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uXggV52Vf7s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The clip above took place in a game I played a few minutes ago and it's a perfect example of what I've seen all year. Unless you play in leagues or against friends, Madden online is nothing more than a cesspool of football play that doesn't resemble anything close to what you see on Sundays. I've reached a point where I just quit out the moment they do something moronic, but it shouldn't have to be this way.

One thing that I enjoyed about 2K titles of the past is the ability to scout people using the VIP system. You could see tendencies like how often they run to a certain side, 4th down attempt %, no huddle frequency, etc. Back in the lobby days it really made it easy to see if the person was worth playing or not. Ranked games are obviously random now, but at least being able to see these things in unranked would be a step in the right direction. That could eventually lead to filtering in ranked based on opponents tendencies. For example; if I don't want to play someone who goes for it on 4th more than 15% of the time, it would be nice to have that option.

Maybe this is all asking for too much, I don't know. I just think that something needs to be done to improve the online experience. I play UFC, Fifa, The Show, NHL and NBA 2K against randoms all the time, and Madden is the worst experience out of all of these games.

It was free in 2K, so I don't see why it shouldn't here.

Considering they also did another fake punt in their own territory that game, I bet it was by design. They probably scouted the 49ers moving their guy with gunner responsibilities to the box and decided if it happened in the game to throw that. I remember reading something about what they had scouted. As for the second fake punt, it was a fake end around and pass.

But you're right. It does happen too much in lobby games. To be honest I also insta quit when guys go for it in their own territory in the 1st quarter.

Actually it probably was by design in that the option to pass was put in the punt due to scouting of the 49ers tendency to move their cb to the box to try to block the kick. The 49ers had been doing that all year to this point and they didn't do it again after that Rams game that ended in a tie. But even without this, the Rams converted a SECOND fake punt in their own territory this game, and that one was a fake end around, not a sudden pass.

Re: Madden Needs to Implement the 2K VIP System

So I agree with the premise that a robust user tracking system is something that should hop into Madden at some point. I remember one time I set up one of the 2K football games to play against my VIP self, and I was floored with how well it replicated my play calling, pre-snap adjustments, heck even the way I controlled players and the ballcarrier moves I favored while running. It was perhaps my favorite feature in those games.

What I don't agree with is the idea that faking a punt deep in their own territory is evidence that the Madden online community is a cesspool. Ever hear the adage "the best time to try a fake is when the opponent least expects it"? That applies here, IMO. I'd have no problem if this happened to me in a game, as long as the guy isn't going for it / faking special teams plays on every fourth down. If it was just this one time, then he just got one over on me, no harm no foul, and I'd just play punt return safe the rest of the game to discourage future fakes.

Granted, pretty much every Madden game before M17 didn't really give the user adequate tools to combat fakes, so perhaps the "cheese" sentiment can be forgiven a bit here. The fleshed-out special teams gameplay mechanics should help make these situations more realistic in how they play out, and also provide you more control over what you want to key on, what you want to stop.

I found the online play in DC and Salary Cap MUT to be nowhere near a cesspool. Both modes rewards players winning games in the short term. And fake punts and 4th down attempts deep in your own territory are negative plays.

That all said, I totally want 2K's VIP system. It was really fantastic.

VIP was great... dont see the big deal about a fake punt...unless its unstoppable.

The fact that some of you are defending the fake punt in that situation as cool, shows me why Madden online is the way it is. It's a land where nobody trusts their D and goes for it on every 4th down.

Yeah, that's why a play style tracking system that you suggest is a so necessary. People who don't mind playing against that kind of BS as long as there are ways to combat it, can play against whomever, and people who want a traditional( like RL, not like Madden) game playing experience can have that too. Win-Win.
