Coach Ellis Remarks "Obviously this is not the way you want to start your coaching career, but I saw some positives out there tonight. The main thing we need to focus on is playing better perimeter defense as well as not turning the ball over as much as we did tonight.

St. Francis (PA) gets back to action on Nov. 12, when they travel to Penn State.

Morgan State vs. St. Francis (PA)
                  November 14th, 2007 @ DeGol Arena

Coach Ellis earned his first career coaching victory tonight as St. Francis defeated Morgan State 75-66.

It was a back and forth affair majority of the first half until St. Francis went on a 13-0 run to end the half to put them up 40-30. The Red Flash came out hot in the second half and led by as many as 20 points, but Morgan State would not back down and went on a 14-0 run to cut the lead down to 6 points with 2 minutes remaining. St. Francis missed back to back shots and ended up grabbing both offensive rebounds and Morgan State had to foul. St. Francis made 3/4 free throws down the stretch while Morgan State missed both shots which sealed the Bears fate.

St. Francis knocked down 11 3 pointers in the win and also dominated on the glass with a 40-28 rebound advantage, including 13 of those 40 being offensive rebounds.

The Red Flash was led by Matthew Green who scored a game high 23 points in the victory. Taj Lagana scored 19 points, grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double double of the season. Aloysius Konare got his first start of the season and was effective, scoring 7 points and grabbing 8 rebounds.

Morgan State was led by Andre Hollins who scored a team high 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds with 3 steals. Ryan Zwikker had a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, Terry Dupree scored 12 points on 14 shot attempts.

Coach Ellis on his first victory: "It feels good to get my first victory under my belt, hopefully it won't be the last. But I'm extremely happy with the way we played tonight, I told the team before the game that someone else needs to step up outside of Matthew Green and they responded well. Hopefully we can carry the momentum into next game against Lehigh."

                    Lehigh vs. St. Francis (PA)
                    November 17th, 2007 @ DeGol Arena

Lehigh defeated St. Francis (PA) tonight, 65-59.

Lehigh started off hot, going on a 10-0 run to start the game. Lehigh and St. Francis traded baskets back and forth for the remainder of the half until Matthew Green stole the ball and ran down the court and drained a 3 before the buzzer sounded, cutting the lead down to 7.

St. Francis started off the second on fire, offensively and defensively. The Red Flash forced 4 turnovers in a row which led to 9-0 run to take their first lead of the game. Once again, Lehigh and St. Francis seemed to trade baskets back and forth as neither team could pull away from each other. Then with 1:30 on the clock and a tied ball game, Freshman Filip Bey stole the ball on an inbound play. He proceeded to kick the ball out to Marty Hart who drained a 3 to give Lehigh a 3 point lead. St. Francis then went iced cold and missed their remaining shots while Lehigh knocked down 3/4 from the free throw line to seal the victory.

Lehigh had a very balanced attack led by Filip Bey who scored a team high 12 points off the bench. Blair Rothseiden and Marty Hart both scored 11 points, Almamy Valentine scored 7 points and grabbed a game high 14 rebounds in the victory.

St. Francis was led by Matthew Green who scored a game high 18 points and had 4 steals. Aloysius Konare scored 12 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and blocked 2 shots. Taj Lagana and Ellis Matthews both scored 9 points.

St. Francis shot the ball poorly all night and couldn't find a rhythm on offense. The Red Flash shot 28% from the field and 26% from three. While Lehigh dominated on the glass, holding a 46-26 advantage. Out of the 46 total rebounds, 15 of those were offensive.

St. Francis gets back to action November 22nd, they will travel to Coach Ellis old employer and take on the Duke Blue Devils.

                      St. Francis (PA) vs. Duke
                      November 22nd, 2007 @ Cameron Indoor Stadium

St. Francis shocked the world tonight and defeated Duke, 88-84 in OT.

Game didn't start out promising for the Red Flash as Duke jumped ahead early and held a steady lead for the majority of the half. St. Francis was missing shot after shot, especially from 3 which they finished at the half 1-11. Although St. Francis had offensive troubles in the first half, Duke still couldn't pull away. Leading 38-31 at half.

The second half started much different as St. Francis clamped down on defense and made it difficult for Duke to run their offense. St. Francis forced 20 Duke turnovers, including 16 in the second half/OT. St. Francis went on a 10-0 run to start the second half to take the lead. Duke and St. Francis would battle back and forth with no team holding a bigger lead than 5 points. With 45 seconds remaining and Duke up 3, Matthew Green stripped ball away from a Duke player and led the fast break, kicking it out to Emanuel Eisentrout who nailed the 3 point shot to tie the ball game up at 72. Duke had one last chance to win the game but Jayce Abram's 3 point shot hit off the front iron and missed, sending the game to overtime.

In the overtime, Duke started hot making their first two shots giving the Blue Devils a 5 point lead. After a St. Francis timeout, Ellis Matthews drives in the lane and kicks out to Matthew Green who swished a 3 point shot. The next possession, Eisentrout would strip the ball away and drive the length of the court and made a layup to tie the game. After a couple possessions, the game was tied 84-84 with 1 minute remaining. Matthews drove past the defender and made an acrobatic layup to give St. Francis their first lead in overtime. The next possession, Frazier missed a jump shot from the free throw line and St. Francis came down with the rebound. After the foul, Taj Lagana went to the free throw line and knocked down both free throws, icing the game for the Red Flash.

St. Francis was led by Emanuel Eisentrout who scored a game high 25 points off the bench. Matthew Green scored 19 points and had a career high in steals with 6. Ellis Matthews scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Taj Lagana scored 12 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and had 2 steals.

Duke was led by Lee Toole who scored a team high 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in the lost. Jake Grochowalski came off the bench and scored 14 points, Jayce Abram scored 10 points, had 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. But Abram struggled holding on to the ball, he had a game high 7 turnovers.

Coach Ellis on taking down his former boss: "What an amazing game played by my guys tonight, they played without fear and never gave up despite playing in such a hostile environment. I always told Coach K, before he retired that I was going to take him down. Thankfully it happened sooner rather than later."

St. Francis (2-3) will look to build momentum off this game when they take on La Salle on November 24th.
