    162-game season

So, who's going to try one this year?

I haven't done one since 2k7 with the Nationals of all teams.

I'm tempted to give it a whirl.

2K7 was the last time I made it through as well. I really wanted to in 2K10, but I thought the pitching was too easy so I stuck to My Player mode, but it sounds like the pitching's been fixed and they added the pitch accuracy slider too, so I'm thinking this will be the year I go for 162

      Re: 162-game season

I've done it before in MLB power pros, I believe I finished almost two full seasons, can't remember exactly. Got within 30 games of finishing one in MVP 05 with the cubs, but I lost the save file (and it was probably the most enjoyable franchise I ever had going)

Last year, I finished about 130 games within the first two months of having the game. I couldn't take some of the problems with 2k10 though, and put it down.

If this years game is much better like it's sounding, I should be able to finish a couple seasons.

I believe 2k8 or 2k7 was the last time I did a full 162 game season with no simming. I'm tempted to do it this time around though if the games take 40 mins to an hour to complete then I pretty much will have to play a game a day.

Yeah, I made it through an 82 game hockey season once. But doubling the length of games AND the length of the season would be a pretty brutal task. I will probably never really play out a 162 game season.

It's even less likely since MLB Today takes up most of my time. I do wish I could track my MLB Today stats somehow.

I can NEVER sim games lol. But I know when I pick this up, MLB today will take up my time. I didn't try 2k10, but is the feature that addicting? I can't wait to try it.

              It really can be.

Every day the game has a slate of games to play, and it shows you the starting pitchers n each game. So I end up playing as different teams against better pitchers, or using some of my favorite pitchers in addition to playing the Cardinals game that day.

During the game you get updates stats and standings, including who has been hot and cold as of late. It's better than watching Baseball Tonight, because you get to just play the game while they feed you info. and if they beefed up the commentary in the same way they did NBA Today, it should be even more immersive.

The one thing I hope they get right is letting us edit the opponent line-ups and pitchers. When the line-ups are announced, it would be cool if I could just adjust, not only my lineup, but my opponent's line-up to reflect what the will be, or was if I'm playing late. there are some workarounds, but it is more of a pain than it should be. But they do get the right starting pitchers 90% of the time.

It's just a fun way to play along with the season.

I've always tried, but I don't think i've ever been able to play 162 games. I think i got through 100 in MLB 2K8 though..

Just cant do it. I've never had enough time. Work, life, Wife and child. My nights are the time I spend in front of the screen. Wouldnt it be great if the cpu could sim with your own tendencies from previous games. It would feel like you were still in the game...without being.

                    Re: 162-game season

Havent gotten through one in a 2K series but I have in other series (MVP, The Show). It really isnt bad going through without simming. I have a "life" as well, but outside of playing a game or two during the say sometimes, I do my primary gaming on weekend mornings. Not to mention, I have summers off due to my job which makes for a lot of free time when all my friends are working.

I liked 2K10 alot but only got through half the season because I started late because I was playing other games. I recently started playing again but I know in 2 weeks I will stop playing it because of the new game coming out.

I do want to get into the MLB Today but I have never really got immersed into it in the baseball or basketball series. If you play every game of a team's season in MLB today, does it keep track of your stats as if it is a season?

In MLB 09 The show, I would have made it to the end, but it did that thing where you couldnt make it past September 21st.
In MLB 10 The Show, I made it to the last Game of the World Series and Just gave up because I could not play any more MLB 10 The Show.
Sorry for talking about The Show, but as you can see I am dedicated to Franchise.
So, answering your question, yes, I will be playing a 162 game season. Franchise mode rules.

                        Re: 162-game season

I use a 162 game season so the year end stats work out better, but what I do is play roughly every 6th game so I get to pitch with each starter in the rotation in order like I'm playing every game without having to play every game.

                        For example:

Rotation is Hudson, Hanson, Jurrjens, Lowe, Minor

                        Hudson - PLAY
                        Hanson - sim
                        JJ - sim
                        Lowe - sim
                        Minor - sim
                        Hudson - sim
                        Hanson - PLAY

                        ...and so on.

I think this year especially with hot/cold streaks you'll want to do 162 games since the streaks are based on the last 30 days. The nagging injuries is a cool feature too, one which will be diminished with a shortened season. Lots of reasons to use a full 162 game season this year.

Serious question.....what fun do you (and others) get out of simming? Is it just to play multiple seasons and handle all of the off-season tasks and truly building and getting involved in franchise mode?

Maybe it's just because I'm anal, but I hate leaving stats to my season in the hands of the cpu. I have a hard time letting go. Maybe I'm the only one. The joy for me is actually playing each series and going through the marathon.

I'm in no way knocking anyone that likes to sim, I guess I'm just ignorant to that type of game experience that others have.

I would like to hear, simmers thoughts.

Well, what I really want to do is play 162 games the first season, no matter how long it takes me. This is why I'm going to try it on the computer, even though I could get the Show or 2k11 for the PS3 my wife and daughter use the TV most of the time.

Then I'll move into more of a front office role, and play the every 6th game.

This would be ideal, but I'll probably never make it out of April.

Another key is you can not be a slug of a team, or else losing becomes utterly painful.

I completely see what you mean but I know for me personally it's tough to find the time to sit down and play 162 games. I do enjoy the entire bit of franchise from developing young guys to making moves to be a contender so it's hard not to play every bit. Sometimes I'll play the division full series. I'm a Reds fan so love the NL Central series. I'm hopeful about this years game that the sim stats will be even better so that can be a plus. I'd play every game if I could but I also own NHL 11, Nba2k11, Multiple single player games and playing all of them just isn't realistic. But that's just me
