Re: Why does MLB2k7 have better graphics than MLB2k11??
There are quite a few sports video games from years ago where aspects, or even the whole game, were better than their more recent counterparts. It's certainly not unusual, and one could even say it's commonplace. -
Re: Why does MLB2k7 have better graphics than MLB2k11??
2K7 looked great, but it had plenty of hiccups and ran at 30 FPS (which was barely acceptable then and certainly won't fly with gamers now). They scaled back a lot of the visuals in order to accommodate better play and more consistent frame rate. Add in a lack of direction and numerous developmental switches from then to now, and you have a series that has struggled to get itself together (and not just visually). That said, it's important to remember too though, that 2K7's graphics masked a lot of fundamental flaws that have been a staple of this series for some time.
Since 2K9, the series has made consistent progress (again, not just visually), but it's just been a slow climb back up from the major visual dropoff that was 2K8 and all the flaws that have been present from the very beginning on this generation of consoles.Comment

Yes, hiccups... first and foremost being that you couldn't play baseball with it.MLB 2K11 is the first next-gen game in this series that's decently playable to some degree.
To heck with the graphics is what I'm saying! (Even though 2K11's graphics look terrific on my PC...)Comment

2k7 looked great in still images. But play it now, I popped it in about a month ago. Boy, not what I remember! 2k11, is the single most played baseball game I ever played aside of Baseball Stars on NES.Comment

lol...to clarify, I never said it was locked at 30. The point was simply that it was designed to run at 30 and they had trouble there. If they wanted to hit 60 FPS, there was no way those visuals weren't getting downgraded.Comment

Re: Why does MLB2k7 have better graphics than MLB2k11??
there are some graphic enhancing mods for nba2k12, would be nice to have a few for mlb2k as well (apart from those adding the real adboards which are great)..
for mlb2k12 id epcially like to see the nightgame graphics improved, during day games the light and reflection effects make up for a lot in my opinion. other than that of course the animations need to be improved.Spending time with Jesus!

Yes I agree MLB 2K7 has the best graphics in the series thus far.
I remember playing it for the first time and it having that "wow" factor for about 2 days then I started to realize the lack of control you had within the game. I thought the lighting was amazing, the movement of the players, honestly I think it surpassed sony's most current MLB game (graphics wise).
Is it even possible to have that whole package, amazing graphics and improved gameplay? I dont own a 360 anymore and I feel 2k caters their game more towards the 360 than the ps3.We play today, we win today, das it!-

Re: Why does MLB2k7 have better graphics than MLB2k11??
The game was unstable, had a major franchise killing glitch, was basically singles and HRs, ran slow, etc, etc. Yet, in many ways (including, obviously, visually) it was possibly their best output on this generation of consoles until 2K10...lol. That's what a mess this series has been the last several years.
Things have definitely been looking up the past couple of years though and 2K11 could be made to play a solid game of baseball (I admit, however, that if I didn't have access to the game on PC with it's cheaper price, better visuals, and mods, I probably still wouldn't give it much more than a rental with all the bugs still present).Comment

Re: Why does MLB2k7 have better graphics than MLB2k11??
i read most of you guys punchin' holes in the statement that 2K7 had better graphics than 2K11, but it's true no matter what you say and.. think if they just scaled back some of the graphics to get it running 45-60 FPS, which they would've by now.
See what I mean ? MLB 2K11 should look and play better than it does now, but when Kush developers left the game, so did the graphics and gameplay that was headed in an awesome direction.Comment

Re: Why does MLB2k7 have better graphics than MLB2k11??
Any MLB game Kush produced was never awesome. They were all universally panned by gamers and reviewers. They were buggy, glitchy and broken. The only part of your statement I agree with is that once VC took over, they began to systematically dumb the game down each year. Now part of that had to do with the fact that Kush had essentially run the series into the ground, and 2K had lost a sizable portion of its consumer base as a result. So in order to re-establish support for the game, they made the decision to make the game easier so as to appeal to a wider range of gamers. One 2K dev called them the "pick up and play crowd," which is just another way of saying "kids and their parents' disposable incomes."Last edited by peigone; 01-02-2012, 08:12 PM.Comment
