Nelson Cruz is overrated. There is no reason for him to have power in the high 90's.

Re: Overrated/Underrated Players
Heh, the same could be said for so many players, 2K way overrates these guys every year. I use a generic roster where players' power numbers are in the 70s tops. Game plays so much more like real baseball with lower offensive ratings, both power and contact.Comment

Bautista is 1-12, Granderson 1-14.3, Fielder 1-15, Kemp 1-15.4, etc.Comment

Re: Overrated/Underrated Players
Zombeels - you can probably questions his plate discipline and contact rate being too high, but his power overrated?? That is just silly.

Re: Overrated/Underrated Players
Andrew McCutchen got screwed with his hitting ratings. Neil Walker should have slightly higher power than he has as well.Comment

Re: Overrated/Underrated Players
ive seen some odd ratings but they aren't on teams i follow too much. i'd have to say though i think chase utley is over-rated, even though he was hurt all last year he's out this year and probably wont ever be that 2B who got all that hype when he was first coming up. i'd say power around 68-70 is accurate.. if he played 162 he would've hit for 16-17 hr probably. the contact is what seems a little high too me. but can't really tell until he "heals" this time around and see what's gonna happen. unfortunately idk of someone losing all the cartilage in their knees and have it magically come back after being in the majors quite a few years.
underrated i'd have to say jimmy rollins. now i know his plate discipline is poopoo, and he swings for power when leading off instead of contact. but even doing those things he batted close to .270 and 16 hr in 142 games. another 20 games could've gotten him to 19 most likely. those numbers usually get players closer to the low/mid 70's range but all his batting numbers are in the 60'sLast edited by duhitsrandy; 04-12-2012, 04:15 PM.Comment

Rollins is under-rated. His power is fine where it is, he is never a 20+ hr hitter. Cept in 09 and that god-like year where he had 30 in 07. But his contact should be raised to at least 72 for righties and maybe 67 for lefties. His speed is fine where it is. Probably could raise it to 92. But he has slowed down considerably the past years. I also think his fielding is a tad over-rated as well.(I know he won best fielder for 3 years straight from 07-09 but I think he isn't the fielder he use to be..still a good shortstop, just not the same)Comment

Re: Overrated/Underrated Players
If anything, Utley is under-rated at batting. Regardless if he was injured, last year he played 103 games and had 11 homers and a .275 avg. His power should be a little higher considering just in 09 he had a 31 homer season. His contact should be where it is. But the Utley was chosen to be a good batter but was a horrible fielder(still kinda is). His fielding anticipation is way too high. And so is his speed. If you have bad knees, you don't have 85 speed. Nuf' Said.

and i for rollins i understand he's not a power hitter by any means, but the low 60's in power is too low. he hit 16 in 142 games so for a full 162 games he'd get another 2 or so 18 hr would have to be around the 68 power range. thats how i would figure the numbers anyway. alot of other hitters who average in the 18-22 range get around 70 +/- a few points and seeing as how he's been in that range since 06 (cept for 2010 he was on pace for ~16) i feel he should get the rating.
its hard to tell because its not JUST the power or Contact rating that does one thing, everything contributes a little bit, and i understand that. but it seems like 2k has a trend of rating certain people certain ways, regardless of past performanceComment

Re: Overrated/Underrated Players
I think most pitchers in the game are overrated. Most do not throw in the high 90's as this game portrays.
Branden Morrow of the Jays DOES NOT throw 100 MPH as this game would have you believe.Comment

Re: Overrated/Underrated Players
Chris Heisey had 18 homers in just under 280 at bats last season, yet his power is in either the low 70's or high 60's (I can't remember which.)-- Heisey's ratio is 1-16.
Speaking of the Reds, they seemed to have nerfed our offense. Phillips, Votto, Stubbs, Cairo, Ludwick, Rolen, and Bruce have all taken huge offensive hits compared to 2k11. I can understand Stubbs being nerfed, but not anyone else. I'm expecting them to make Cozart a lot better in a future update.Last edited by Zombeels; 04-12-2012, 08:56 PM.Comment

Re: Overrated/Underrated Players
well utley hit .259 and i understand the 11 homers in 103 games but if you figure thats a little over 1 homer every day games then he'd have 16 or 17 in 162 games so i think the 70 power is a little too high i'd see the 65 power being =/= 15 home runs. his contact was .285 vs righties which is good the high 70 average is good, but he was .187 against lefties with no power so that lowered would lower the overall if you get what i mean. after all the knee problems he is having and will continue to have for the rest of his career i doubt you will see another 20+ home run season from him again. (as one of the biggest utley fans it hurts to say but the knee problems he has aren't really fixable)
and i for rollins i understand he's not a power hitter by any means, but the low 60's in power is too low. he hit 16 in 142 games so for a full 162 games he'd get another 2 or so 18 hr would have to be around the 68 power range. thats how i would figure the numbers anyway. alot of other hitters who average in the 18-22 range get around 70 +/- a few points and seeing as how he's been in that range since 06 (cept for 2010 he was on pace for ~16) i feel he should get the rating.

Re: Overrated/Underrated Players
I think you answered your own question. It's HR to AB ratio AND a substantial number of at bats over multiple seasons. Cruz has one of the best ratios over the last three years and has done it for more 280 ABs in each. Otherwise, you get guys like Heisley (small sample size) or Stubbs (double digits HRs, but a TON of ABs) overrated.Last edited by VC_Plant; 04-12-2012, 09:55 PM.Comment
