Is anyone else as obsessed as I am?

When I get into a game, I get into a game. Lately I have been using my palm pilot (with scorekeeper) to stat games. The reason I've been doing this is because I can keep a detailed pitch chart on pitchers that I can look at for future games. It gives me (over time) what kind of pitches a pitcher throws for each and every count. So by seasons end I will have very detailed pitch charts for most teams (especially those in the N.L. Central). This is very helpful because I can use it very quickly (while I'm playing) to see what any given pitcher typically throws on any given count. I'm sure there's even a way to print out or post these charts if anyone is interested.

dude I kept score the other day for a game so your not a nerd alone I'm with ya bro. The show makes you do things you did when you were a kid because its the greatest baseball game ever. I literally look like a ten year old when I play the game jumping up and down in big games and big situations. Thing is Im a big football fan too but I know that EA doesnt even have a chance of getting me that into the game. Oh well if I had my choice it would be baseball anyway to be the best.

I kept some basic stats in an excel file, but no, I'm definitely not at your level of obsession haha.

I coach high school baseball and we use my palm pilot for our games. When the other coaches see that I have 100+ Cubs games in there I'm sure they will be thinking, "what the crap!?" I will leave out the part that they are not even real games. So far it has really been beneficial. By the 6th time I played the Padres I had a real good idea of what their pitchers were going to do. Its pretty realistic. There is no cheating because it does not guarantee that you can guess the pitch every time but it gives you an edge.

Exactly. To quote a fellow OSer- "These may not be real pitchers, but they sure have real tendencies."

Re: Is anyone else as obsessed as I am?

Yep. I can definitely tell a difference. Some pitchers rely on their fastballs early in the counts. Some pitchers will not throw a breaking pitch behind in a count.

Josh Geer threw 34 fastballs on the first pitch (0-0 count), 7 sliders, and only 5 change ups.

Out of 13 first pitches (0-0 count) Eulogio De La Cruz threw 11 fastballs. The second time I saw him I jumped all over him.

                      Compare him to Duaner Sanchez.

Out of 8 first pitches (0-0 count) he only threw 3 fastballs. Pitchers definitely have different tendencies.

Wow, thats inspiring me to try something to that effect. What rosters are you using? Also, can you post your results for one pitcher? I want to face him in my game and see if the results are the same. If they are, I see a large database in the future...

I'm using default SCEA rosters. Which pitcher do you want posted? So far I have 6 games against the Padres and 2 against St. Louis.
