This has been a common theme with outfield play in The Show.

The automatic dive catch animations coupled with the "suck you in" ani's seem to be the culprit.

I think it will take a major change for this to become a major focal point in the gameplay. But just know you're not alone in wanting this to happen...

Bothers me too. Fielding in general is underwhelming.

Well, I turned fielder speed down to 2 to see if it helps.

honestly how many diving catches are there though in an average game? maybe 1. I will say going 60 games with non is not realistic but there shouldnt be one every game

I love to dive for no reason. In one game with MLB 10 I tried diving and jumping for absolutely no reasons at wrong times, and the highlight reel for that game was hilarious with all those players doing their dive thing with slooow motion... haha.

I guess I'm too bored or have too much time.

Seriously, I haven't actually tried this myself, but can you *intentionally* have a bad jump on a regular fly ball, and try to catch it by diving? I wonder if this works or not.

The problem with diving I find is that you have to be so perfectly timed and aligned to succeed. I find with dives there is NO suction assistance at all. Does make it extremely rewarding to actually get one though. I generally mess up on my dives on ground balls I mis judge the speed and dive way too early. It either goes behind me or hits me in the ribs lol

Yes yes, very true on all points. They need more "suction assistance" agreed 100%. But I do feel they're a bit easier this year. .....a bit....

Chris Young from Arizona was just on Sportscenter's top 10 plays with 2 diving catches in one inning...but i definitely think there should be at least one per game, or the opportunity of one per game.

I haven't had to dive yet. But did scale the wall with Carlos Gonzales in Pittsburgh which was pretty cool.

There seems to be a very realistic amount if dives in my games.

Granted, I use Auto Field, and have Run Spd and Solid Hits down one click as well.

I'm not suggesting anyone touch any sliders or anything, but perhaps it's a matter of balls being stuck with ever slightly too much "oomph"...allowing outfielders to reach the ball before a dive needs to be initiated.

I saw a really sweet catch by Brett Gardner yesterday, helping to preserve a gem from C.C.

Nah, it has to do with the "suction." If you're on auto-field the game does it well. The CPU uses dives pretty well.

It's just manual fielding for the user, really.

By "suction," do you mean the animation that guides the outfielder into ball, while standing upright, just as the ball declines towards the ground?

What would happen if you tried to force the dive any way? Is it too risky, or will the animation at that stage not allow it?

That's it.

I've never tried to break out of it. Doesn't make sense to; once you notice the "snap" it's a catch. Why purposefully cause a miss?
