Ever Can't Hit with only 1 Player?

I know I have. Currently I can't hit with Justin Upton with my Arizona franchise. I tend to swing at everything with him! I know that's the problem. But I think it's mental. I'm so anxious for him to hit a bomb that I lose my composure. Also my timming is always off with the guy even when I get a meatball. Any advice?

My advice, stop swinging at everything.

Force yourself to take at least on ball, maybe two. Force yourself to not swing till you have two strikes. Self control...

I always have problems with Jeter, only because he's my favorite player and I always want to do well. I don't swing at everything, but I definitely swing much more with him than with other players. No walks for Jeet, lol.

Trust me I know not to swing at everything. Just like the two guys above I'm just less patient with Upton than everyone else.

I just finished a series with the Cubs and have gotten better. I just need a different approach with my guy!

While I'm not great with anybody since I am a poor batter overall, I'd say I have the most hot/cold AB's with Jason Bay. I either barely miss breaking stuff in the zone, or I have a game where I go 3-4 with a HR with him. It's rare that I have a average day to the tune of 2-4 with singles. It's either all or nothing it seems.

JJ Hardy was hitting .193 after 2 months of the season for me. After a little hot streak he is up to .210 entering the 2nd or 3rd week of June.

But that's what I'm thing to say. If you know that you're less patient with one guy in particular then FORCE yourself to not swing at anything, no matter how juicy the pitch might look, till you have a strike. You just have to learn to exert more self control when that guy is at the plate..

Jose Reyes - one of my favorite players, but I can never get on base with him, for whatever reason. I always have to switch someone else into the lead off spot.

I see your point. Its really pyschological I've gone into games using that approach with Justin Upton and the damn CPU pitches 3 straight meatballs strike-out looking! I need to find a way to just relax and use my normal fundamentals with him. Like I do everyone else. When ugly betty is talking to me I'm confident and controlled. When its Mellisa Ford I'm a nervous wreck and stuttering. LoL

For me, it's ironically someone who struggles in real life at times... Brandon Inge.

Fukudome is hitting .173 for my Cubs.

But he walked three times today!

I'm usually pretty terrible with Geo Soto. I'm not even a fan of the guy in real life all that much, and I just never seem to hit the ball solid with him. Might be his stance, or just poor luck with him. Yet, I have had a couple of memorable game winning HRs with him in my franchise.

This is why i turned guess pitch off. I have a reaction problem where I would guess right on the first pitch and swing every time even if the strike isn't a very hittable one.

But as for the topic, I can't hit very well with Ichiro for whatever reason. I think his stance bugs me or something. Thankfully he can hustle out some bunt singles.

Re: Ever Can't Hit with only 1 Player?

I've got a few guys in trouble; about 45 games in:

                              Brandon Inge - .224
                              Austin Jackson - .218
                              Victor Martinez - .198

It really marks one of the high points of this game, though. When you get some guys who are struggling like that over that amount of time, it completely and totally becomes a mind game.

You're basically presented a choice: is this guy going to lay down, hit .200 and basically not be worth his spot in the lineup, or are you gonna stop rushing your at-bats and get his average up to a respectable level?

But as we all know, thinking about it too much - trying too hard, in effect - is no better than swinging at everything.

The subsequent psychological game you play with yourself with all this mind is what baseball is all about, and this game captures it perfectly, no matter how frustrating it might seem at times.
