Destined to lose?

Just curious if anyone else here has games where they feel like no matter what; they are just destined to lose that particular game? For example: just played Marlins and after a couple of bloopers I gave up in 2nd inning they hit a home run. Bottom of the 2nd I tie it up 3-3. Top of 3rd couple more bloopers and polanco pulls a shot to right field to make it 6-3 off a ball I threw way low out of the zone.

Proceeded to hit every ball at someone throughout the remainder of the game. Hit some balls hard, but everyone was right at someone and even resulted in several double plays. Those are the games where I say to myself 'I'm just not supposed to win this one'. Not blaming the game or anything; it's just baseball. I like that the game so accurately emulates the sport.

Just curious if anyone else encounters the same thing? Or maybe sometimes I just don't concentrate hard enough and it's strictly on me lol.

It's just that baseball is that kinda game.

On average, an MLB team would score 4.5 runs per game. There are 9 innings, so if the runs are equally distributed over the 9 innings, a team would score a run every other inning. It's a very simplistic argument, but that's partly why seesaw games aren't all that rare in baseball.

It's just that baseball is that kinda game.

Especially since in the video game world you control both sides of the ball.

Feel like you got screwed at the plate? Guess what you're going to carry that frustration onto the mound, and before you know it it's caused problems.

I feel your pain, bro. 162 games is a loooong season, so anything and everything will happen.

For example, the Astros will beat the Yankees 11-1 one night, then the Yankees will win the next 7 games they play against the Astros.

Why?

162 game season vs. 16 game season ....

And Baseball is the only major sport where the Defense has the Ball.

I few hits later it's 5-3, i get frustrated and make bad pitches, bang, i lose 6-5. That's just baseball, you gotta keep your head.

I also do this. Especially if I'm having a tough time at the plate I start trying to get through innings quick because I'm frustrated about striking out with bases loaded. Before I know it I've given up 3 runs and dug myself a whole. Def agree on the mental aspect.

Had one of these last night. I had lost the first two games to the Red Sox with the Jays. I started the season 8-0 and have been playing .500 ball ever since. The game is a pitching duel until the 6th.

Franklin freakin' Morales is shutting me down, 9k's through 4 and 2/3 when I finally get a walk. I started the game determined to rock this guy but obviously wasn't being patient. He ended with 9K's but more on that in a minute.

Josh Johnson is pitching well but can't seem to hit the corners running the count deep on most batters and by the 6th he's thrown 80 pitches in a 0-0 game.

I walk the lead off guy, the next guy hits a squibber down to first that EE goes to get, but Johnson is slow off the mound and EE is in no man's land. Ortiz crushes a first pitch hanger and it's 3-0.

I get the next two to K. Now here comes the destined to lose part.

A ball down the line that the 3B (sadly Andy Laroche as the league leading batter Brett Lawrie is out 6 weeks ) lets by on the ridiculous animation where he's right there but goes into the defensive crouch/protect the face animation that I know you all have seen far too many times.

Lose a slider and hit the next guy, even though I was aiming for the other side of the plate, barely missed the spot on meter.

Go 0-2, but the guy fights off an outside change-up and bloops on into RF, Bautista is right there, no way the guy is going to try and score from 2nd...oh he is, pre-load the throw.....Bautista runs over the ball and by the time I pick it up, 1st and 3rd.

Warm up a reliever, and walk the next guy.

Reliever in, one pitch and a ball down the 1B line, right at EE, yup, you guessed it, same stupid defensive animation, ball goes to right, 5-0.

I K the next guy.

The 6th, 7th and 8th go by and Morales is getting warning track fly ball out after warning track fly ball out. Guys like Iszturis and Laroche are squaring balls up, but to the deep part of centre. I hit two balls that would have been HR's by Bautista and EE that just go foul. No hitter through 8.

We get to the 9th and the bullpen has done well, still 5-0 and hey, you never know. Lead off scorcher down the line, caught. Next batter comes up and hits a dribbler past the pitcher (not anywhere within his reach), Pedroia gets it, jump throw.....safe!!! I broke up the no hitter!!! I watch the replay to savour it, wait WHAT!! The anouncer are taking about error free ball and they can't claim that anymore. I watch the replay over and over, somehow the pitcher gets an error on the play despite the ball going nowhere within his reach.

Ugh, next guy doubles and breaks up the no-hitter again, runners 2nd and 3rd. Melky gets a sac fly, they pull Morales and Bautista strikes out to end the game.

I have never been no-hit in a game, and I would gues this is the first time I have ben 1 hit (should have been 2), but the animations, errors and number of solid contact scorchers and deep fly balls were just too much.

That's baseball though and while I was frustrated as hell last night, writing this out just has me again loving how awesome this game is!!

I remember hearing that addicted gamblers get more of a high from losing than winning. I think the same holds true for most sports gamers. While winning is great, I believe you have to lose to make winning more enjoyable. It's funny, when I win a game by a bunch I feel that I need to adjust the sliders. I almost feel guilty.

I played a franchise game last night and gave up a six spot in the first inning. I decided to sim the game trailing 7-0 after three innings. Now, I can't wait to play tonight. I guess I don't need to adjust my sliders yet.

Weird things often happen in the late innings to help the computer win. Last game I played I was up by 1 in the 8th, the cpu at bat with a runner on first and one out. Ground ball about 5 feet to the right of my SS, a taylor made double play... except apparently somebody replaced the infield dirt with quicksand. My SS was in slow motion and missed the ball by a few feet. Next batter comes up, runners on first and second. He hits a deep fly ball to the warning track in right-center. My RF gets to the spot in plenty of time to make the catch, but the ball miraculously misses his glove... just flat out misses it. Both runs score, CPU goes on to win.



Stuff like this happens a lot. If it was just me pitching bad that would be one thing, but the game makes it so the cpu won't lose from time to time, no matter what you do. I know the developers deny it, and people here will deny it, but it's true.

Destined to lose? Absolutely not. I feel like I control my destiny in every single game. When I'm giving up nonstop hits, I control how long that pitcher stays in the game, and when I bring in a new, more competent pitcher.

For the most part, I control when I get a hit, and how well I'm reading the ball.

I control my pitch selection...

Anytime I lose (and as a Mets fan, I lose A LOT) I'm fully aware of why I lost, and things I didn't do correctly, and other things I should have and could have done to give myself a better chance. There's always an at-bat where I should have capitalized; maybe I didn't take enough pitches/chased too many... too many power swings and not enough contact; being too predictable on the mound; not being aggressive enough, etc etc...

Most of my big home runs come on pitches that I'm fully aware I shouldn't be throwing ("hey let's just throw the first curveball of the game to this Pujols guy, what's the worst that could happen?")

Win or lose, it's literally my own fault, every game.

So I can't relate at all.

I see it sometimes with errors, where I will be winning then my fields will start botching all these players and dropping easy fly balls.

but that happens in real life too, I would check confindence levels and see if they are low for those players that are screwing up

Happened to me yesterday against the cubs. They scored 3 in the 1st and I matched them in the 4th. Game was tied until the 9th when Jorge Soler (hope I spelled that right) rocketed a 3-0 change-up into the upper deck in coors field. It was just a battle back and fourth. I just didn't have the pitching depth as I had just called up a new LRP from AAA and he had no stamina left to carry the workload.

Beat them the next night 12-1
