I've had 2. Won both of them.

These challenges are auto right?

No way to initiate them?

Re: Challenges

I've seen 2 in exhibition. Lost the 1st challenge and won the 2nd one. But the 2nd call was a horrible one by the 1B ump. The runner was a at least 4 steps from the base when my first baseman caught the ball. The ump called the play safe.

I hope the umpire accuracy rate isn't negatively affected because SCEA implemented the challenge function.

Same here. One where I was on defense, and one where I was on offense.

Well, in a sense it is, because the AI doesn't need to challenge calls. I had this exchange with Woodweaver pre-release:

I realize that would require situational AI to be put in on when it would be most beneficial for the CPU team to challenge though, so as a first year effort I'm fine with that.

Hopefully we still have the option of turning the umpire missed calls off (basically a shortcut to the eventual outcome of a replay challenge)

Edit: Yes, I am well aware that 1B is the only challengeable call, and that either way this is not going to have a huge impact on the game (replays are rare enough in MLB as it is, and having only one category of them makes the impact even smaller).

Maybe next year...

One thing about that though - are we going to be limited in our number of challenges like in the real MLB? If there is a limit then that could put the user in a disadvantaged situation vs a CPU that doesn't need to use them.

I know it's just a series of cutscenes (with a prompt) triggered by a close play, so maybe the limit thing doesn't factor in.

I've got a vivid enough imagination that I can imagine the CPU challenging a close play, and ultimately getting the call right.

I know people are going to cry foul on that, but to me it's better than the CPU being unable to challenge and being stuck with a bad call. As WW said maybe next year they can get challenge logic for the AI in....

For now if you want everything to be fair, turn umpire close plays off (therefore disabling challenges because the right call is always made).

I believe they are kind of semi auto. You cant just choose any play. But if it was a close play then the option will come up and you have to decide if you want to challenge it or not.
