Wish The Show would use actors for the commentary/presentation

I would say use some minor league announcers, but their time would be also be limited during the season.

After listening to the commentary in Madden 17, The Show is just so incredibly dull.

Madden just put out a new download update yesterday and added some fresh new lines!

I know the devs said they're going to stick with Matt V, but something seriously needs to change. You hear the audio clips in the menus and it's absolutely nothing like the in game.

Further, it still sounds like the conversation between the two commentators is distant and not in the same booth.

    I have them turned off.

I find it distracting to hear "heh..yeah. If he had swung at THAT one....heh....he'd NEVER hear the end of it!" when I am trying to measuring up an incoming pitch.

Not my 1st choice but I would gladly take actors that could give a better commentary recording then what the show has had all these years. I turn the audio off every year.

        Spoiler

Some new voices in the booth would be welcome but They have a good relationship with Matty V I don't like him but I guess we have to deal with him I think they should get him away from the commentary and give him a pre game show or a in game highlights show.

But how would I know that it's easy to lay off a straight fast ball below the zone with two strikes if they didn't tell me literally every time I do it? Or keep my constantly updated on my percentage of first pitch strikes?

Well Matty V isn't going anywhere. So what I'd like is to add in some stories in the game you know. Like they guys are just talking about some random stuff and occasionally be like as we watch Freeman single into right, or as Howard grounds out to short.

Anyone who's watched a Braves or Dodgers game knows what I'm talking about.

I still stand that slugfest loaded had the best commentary lol. Even the 2k baseball games best in this category, and that's saying something.

Re: Wish The Show would use actors for the commentary/presentation

Matt V is perfectly fine. He has a solid broadcast voice. The problem is the rest of the crew doesn't sound as if they're in the same booth. Madden has improved their commentary but they are still very much lacking in the way the lines are read. Not entirely a fan of how brandon gaudin and charles davis stretches out the final word in their sentences. I had high expectations for the Madden new commentary, but it's still missing the mark. Improved? Yes, but still missing a component.

I honestly would like to see the Oakland Athletics, either radio or tv broadcast crew, take over. Has nothing to do with the fact that I'm an A's fan, but it's because they have great broadcast voices. However .....

Thread topic. I would openly welcome actors if it brings the commentary to a different level. However, if the Show doesn't figure out how to implement two or three individuals sounding as if they're all in the same booth, actors aren't going to make a difference.

It's nice that there's an option for those select individuals, but when developers are trying to create a baseball TV broadcast atmosphere, it's an important feature to get right, and not simply dismiss. Sure, there are individuals that watches baseball games on mute, but that's not how the other percentage of the population watches.

I personally find it unsettling playing the game with the crew on mute. It's simply doesn't feel right. I would rather hear the same lines repeated over and over. The commentary is one component that breathes life into a TV broadcast.

I'm not one to mute the commentary, but I don't think of it as watching on mute. More like watching a game at the stadium.

There's no voice in the booth when you're at the ballpark.

I think no commentary is sort of a hybrid considering the game probably will never give a true "like at the park" view (even RTTS isn't purely "like on the field" since it's still a third person-ish view since you can see your own body and all in front of you and hitting is still through the catcher's [or 2B/SS, depending on your preferred hitting view] eyes) since that would be a fixed camera based on where you're "sitting" (good luck playing from that).

Commentary would be easlier more fluid if it was a 2 man booth. The 3 way the show employs is as awkward as a you'd expect a 3 way to be.

I've been on Matty V's side for a while but after watching/hearing Madden...I honestly think it's time for a change.

Get some fresh blood, try something different...I love the fact Madden will be doing live updates with commentary throughout the season. This is the one aspect Show fans have longed clamored for in an upgrade - I didn't realize how much of an impact it makes.

Oh god yes. That started to annoy me after just a handful of vids. That said, I disagree with you about Matt & The Show crew - you even used the phrase "the way the lines are read" so I'm surprised: all three of those guys read their lines with near-constant upward-inflection, as if to force a "fun" and "happy" tone all the time. Baseball is a downward-inflection sport, imo.

Re: Wish The Show would use actors for the commentary/presentation

Yea MLB The Show is really losing ground fast to other sports games when it comes to commentary/presentation!

NBA2K and MLB2K have always been better then MLB The Show and now Madden which used to be pretty bad is now light years better then MLB The Show commentary/presentation wise. Some are saying Madden new commentary has even surpassed NBA2k. Of course if you remember earlier this year in the MLB The Show 16 twitch videos the developers said that 16 is really year 1 of rebuilding the commentary. But having said that the way the commentary has so slowly improved since the PS2 days we may not get the Madden 17 or NBA2K 17 quality commentary until MLB The Show 20 on Playstation 5 if not never maybe

It's really sad because MLB The Show is the leader in just about every other aspect of the game.

Last thing in my opinion yes the commentary did improve a little bit in 16 but it still sounds way to much like commentary from a PS2 game if not even a PS1 game. Madden 17 and NBA2K17 sound like real life commentary as if you are really hearing a real broadcast where as MLB The Show 16 still sounds like a "video game" broadcast in stead of real life. The fact of the matter is and this really suck but the fact is the MLB The Show development team is more then half the size of Madden and NBA2k I believe. And that is the main reason why the commentary is dragging so much for so many years now. The best thing that could happen to MLB The Show is if Sony hired like 30 or more developers to add to their team but I am sure that is not ever going to happen.

Something must be done. The commentary is waaaaaaay to repetitive and stale. It is one of the areas where this team has not progressed since the ps2 days. I liked the Soup, bring him back!!

Exactly. This team delivers solid games that sell a lot. They should get more love from Sony.

Re: Wish The Show would use actors for the commentary/presentation

I have no desire at all to have actors do it. That would be worse than what we have now. Just because one game does something and it's new doesn't mean each game needs to copy it.

I'd be ok with adding a new color man/men because Karros and Lyons don't add very much, but the commentary in this game gets a bit of an unfair rap. I almost wonder how many of the strong critics even really play the game?

I've owned the past 3 years of the game, played at least a full season of each one and I am still hearing new lines. For example, I played against Eric O'Flaherty who got a borderline strike call and they said "it must be the luck of the Irish." The new lines aren't always player specific either.

There are certainly lines and phrases that you hear a lot, but paired with a good SOTS package, the real commentators give the game a sim/authentic feel. There's also the issue of scrapping a decade of commentary and needing to build an audio library back up slowly over time, by which time people that are sick of the commentary now will be sick of that commentary also.

Sub in a new color guy (maybe) and at most tweak the percentages with which the most repeated lines are, well, repeated.
