Re: Do you Feel MLB uses enough ATTRIBUTES to DEFINE Players?

Arent some players in real baseball more streaky hitters whereas some are more consistent from game to game, month to month. Is this somehow simulated/influenced within the game....or is it just random dice roll?

I know there is alot of data that supports certain players are hot early in the year while others seem to start out cold and finish off hotter, ect.

Maybe some sort of "Hitting Biorhythm Chart" in their player card where this could be captured and viewed would be cool

I'm not saying that I wouldn't like to see a change in the attribute system at some point. But keep in mind that any change to the attribute system more than likely nulls carry-over saves. It might theoretically be possible to add the new attributes to existing MLB players (in the same way that they update facescans and such each year). But there would be no way to add new attributes to generated, drafted players specific to a carry-over franchise other than random (which would be bad).

When SCEA committed to carryover saves, it's pretty likely they knew the attribute system wasn't going to be changing for a while.

I just figured the rating would be zero, or 50, or whatever default number.

He needs a power rating that can govern his relative inability to hit home runs and his relative knack for the extra base knock. The current power rating definition does not allow room for both of these extremes to exist. If he has a power rating of 70, he will hit far too many homers. And if he has a power rating of anything less, he will hit too few xbh.

Maybe the new ball physics will help influence xbh without the need to adjust any power rating.

It has most of it down imo, but there are still a few things they could do.

Separation of stamina and injury proneness.

RH/LH splits for pitchers

Some kind of indication as to what sort of hitter they are, categories like power swing/line drive hitter/slap hitter etc. So players could have high power but not be big home run threats. (I'm pretty sure different swings have these already, but the game just doesn't tell you)

Baserunning skill, similar to fielding, goes with speed to determine how well players judge when to take extra bases and how well they round or slide into bases.

Pitcher ground ball/fly ball tendency

Re: Do you Feel MLB uses enough ATTRIBUTES to DEFINE Players?

I think some of the player individuality gets lost because the categories are too broad and not position specific. Fielding for instance is broad and I think some positions need to be broken down further to accurately define the player. For example range is important for a shortstop and some players are not equal going to their left or right and this piece is lost in defining the player.

One thing I would love to do.. which I believe the older sports games used to do. You could input the season stats yourself especially for the minor leaguers (with MLE) and have them automatically revise it into attributes and have them play the way stats shows. Something along the lines.

I remember NHL 94 and Tony LaRussa 2 had something like that. U just input the stats (current or last 3 years or whatever) and they play the way stats shows. Lots of double, triples whatever. Better SB percentage (they are way too high in the show).. would be awesome I think. Saves us time trying to figure out the formula for whatever.

Amen! I've been asking this for a few years now.

I'd like them to add tendencies to the game, similar to 2K...I've mentioned it before but allow the user to edit player tendencies both for pitchers and hitters.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.
