You obviously don't watch many games and are going by the notion that he's a bad "defender." Which is totally wrong. He had 16 pass balls but also above average pitch framing, an absolute cannon for an arm and pretty good percentage at catching runners. And since is based on his last 3 years, he had zero issues with pass balls in 16 either and had a historically good rookie season.

He's also clearly the best offensive catcher in the game right now
WAR is the most over-valued stat in baseball. The stat completely lacks context as it's based on hypothetical runs, not real runs. Hypothetical runs are determined by those around you, not yourself. Place ANY .280 hitter in his spot of the lineup and I guarantee you'll get a good slash line. Also, its calculated against replacement levels, which by baseball's own definition, is a good player in AAA.

BTW, he's not good on defense. If he was, he'd be top 10 in dWAR (another pointless stat, but I'll use it since WAR has sex appeal):
1. Andrelton Simmons 4.2
2. Tucker Barnhart 2.8 <---a catcher
3. Byron Buxton 2.8
4. Mookie Betts 2.6
5. Kevin Kiermaier 2.5
6. Nolan Arenado 2.3
7. Matt Chapman 2.2
8. Addison Russell 2.0
9. Kevin Pillar 1.9
10. Manny Pina 1.9

Let's talk about his errors / passed balls next. Sanchez lead (not sure that's the correct word) AL catchers in errors (13) AND passed balls (16). Second place was Yan Gomes with 4 less errors (and a lot less passed balls)...and Gomes catches a bunch of sinker / junkball pitchers while Sanchez, in general, gets more heat.

Whether or not you want to take off your blind fold is up to you, Sanchez is a good DH at best.

He is down in Tampa already working on his pitch framing!!!

YANKEES

An entire thread dedicated to discussing 4 players overall ratings 2 months before the game releases. This is just so Yankees sense of self importance it hurts.

If you want to talk about any Yankee ratings, then I'm sure you're fine.

I mean, I don’t see anyone stopping you from making a ratings thread about your team.

Might as well do something to pass the time right?

Yeah I don’t feel the need to make a thread about specific players on my favorite team. That was my point. It’s exactly something I’d expect from a Yankees fan. Lmao. I was really hoping the rebuild would last longer. So Yankees fans could feel like the rest of us for awhile. Damn you baseball gods.

My comment was largely intended to be a joke about the Yankees fan base, though.
