Recommended System For The Show - OG or Pro?

Just wanting your guys thoughts. I've decided I am definitely going to pick up a used PS4, mainly for The Show. I am sure I'll dabble with a couple other PS exclusives, but this won't be my primary system as I mostly game on PC.

I've a 1440p gaming monitor, so no 4k. Assuming cost wasn't an issue the Pro is the clear choice. The extra money isn't stopping me from grabbing Pro, I am more wondering if it's actually worth it to do so considering I don't hay a 4k TV or monitor.

Thoughts? I am basically looking at around a $100 difference. Thanks in advance.

well the pro has more space, and loads things a bit faster, but it was initially designed to add 4k to your gaming experience.

Based on your info just go for the OG PS4 or the Slim.

If you can afford to, I'd 100% go for the Pro. Framerate is king with this game. I have a full 4k television with minimal input lag but I run at the high speed mode vs HDR. Why? Because the frame rate is so much smoother, which allows one to time-up pitches much better.

So, even though you don't have the 4k display, I think it's a moot point. The big selling point for THIS game and the Pro is the frame rate performance. (It's not horrible on PS4, but the Pro is that much better IMO).

Pro, for sure. IMO it's what the PS4 should have been at launch. You'll still have a good time with The Show on a Slim/OG, but the high frame rate mode on the Pro makes it run so much smoother. I also ran on a 1440p gaming monitor as I'm not impressed with the PS4 Pro's 4K capability anyway. I only bought a PS4 Pro for the higher frame rate option offered by The Show, otherwise I would have just stuck with the original PS4.

The PS5 could be, at best, 12 months from release, so that might be a reason not to splurge on a Pro right now.

I've basically got 3 offers on the table:
OG 1tb, controller, Madden, 2k19, GTA - $135
Slim 1tb, Controller - $200
Pro, 2 controllers, RdR, headset - $300

The OG deal just came across and is significantly less than the Pro. Not an issue spending the extra $$, just debating it's worth. Likely to sell any extras anyway, so they only really matter in resale value.

If you are going to drop 200-300 hours into The Show.....The Pro is the only choice. The frame rate is so much better and makes for a far smoother and better playing game of baseball.

No brainier.

Beating a dead horse here, but the framerate alone makes the Pro a better choice. It is so important for games like this and FPS.

Pro all the way. I'm still playing on an older LG Tru-Motion 55 inch (1080p/60hz) set. I still own MLB 14,15,16,17 and have popped each in several times of the course of time and 18 on the Pro kills the older versions gameplay/framerate wise...not even close. I'm 41 with a mortgage, kid in a private school, and a frugal wife. I've read about the pro and mlb 18 on 4k/HDR sets in the other threads. With the low prices of great tvs these days, I'm a little sad when I sit down to play and the tv turns on year after year...deep inside i'm hoping for a "popping, slight explosion sound" to justify going out and buying a new 4k/hdr set...lol

Do yourself a favor and get a Pro and run in high frame rate mode (I think it’s called “faster” mode iirc). Makes a huge difference, regardless of what TV/display you’re using.

I agree 100% with everyone on here. High framerate mode makes a WORLD of difference in this game. Its hard to explain but theres no chance I could go back to a non Pro PS4.

Anyone know if there is a huge graphics improvment between org ps4 and the ps4 pro? If i have a 4k tv would i notice a huge improvment? I assume brighter and crsiper looking graphics?

For me HDR really makes the game shine. On my old tv the game was kinda pale looking and now it just pops, at afternoon games you almost feel the warmth of the sun [emoji41]
