Don't forget that he pitched too. For a team to even consider a position player pitching in an official game is an accomplishment in itself.

He pitched in one game. Plenty of position players do that.

By your estimation tony Gwynn must be overrated then too.
The Mariners asked him to do that, and he refused.

Gwynn was a better hitter, and did a heckuva lot more than pile up singles.

Gwynns career OPS is nearly 100 points higher than Ichiros. Ichiros highest OPS was .869... Gwynn topped that 5 times. Ichiro had 4 seasons over .800 OPS.. Gwynn; 13, including 9 years in a row to end his career.. Gwynn also drove in 350 more runs than Ichiro.

No contest.

To the OP if he is removed you DL a stellar CAP of him and import him into whatever roster you use.

No biggie.

you can't make a 45 year old player I am sure. I don't think you can go over 40 years?? I am not sure but I think I had trouble on this once

Fitting that he never won squat, and played in next to no meaningful games.
Are you one of those sabermetrics nerds who think walks are the same as singles?

Are you mad that Ichiro didn't draw many walks?

Walks don't drive home the guy on second. Walks don't drive in runs from third.

Sure, walk the .300 hitter so the guy hitting .220 with 30 homers can drive them in. That's totally smart baseball.

75.7% of Tony Gwynn's hits were singles. SUCH an efficient player!

You sound like the kind of guy who wants to reduce the game to homers, walks and strikeouts, thus turning the game into literally watching grass grow. It gives seven fielders absolutely nothing to do and strips away the soul of the game. Gee, I wonder why attendance is dropping?

Ichiro isn't the guy who kept the Mariners from ever reaching the World Series.

Ichiro didn't wait until 1991 to give the Mariners a winning record.

Ichiro isn't the reason that UrinatingTree will soon make a Legacy of Failure video about them, like he has with the Rangers and Nationals/Expos.

Ichiro is not to blame for the team not building around him. Imagine if they still had Randy Johnson and Ken Griffey Jr. alongside him. But nooo, they traded the Big Unit so Houston could have a half-season rental and then he walked off to the D-Backs, while Griffey went to go play for Daddy's team because the M's were run by morons.

Because one man is not a team. This isn't the NBA. Steve Carlton can win you 20, but if you only win 40 or so games when others start, that's on management and the front office, not your best player.

Yeah, Ichiro could have hit 40 homers a year. But he'd also be hitting .260 and George Sisler would still own the single-season hits record.

And he wouldn't be Ichiro.

This. If you watched the stream, you saw his LS card. Plus one of the guys (I think it was Ramone) did say he was in the game.
