House Rules for The Show 19

New to the show but longtime baseball fan. Wanted to see what some of the vets in the forum use for house rules. For trading, contracts, free agency, scouting etc. Any feedback is appreciated !

I don’t use house rules. Whatever happens, happens

Re: House Rules for The Show 19

Other than some age and attribute adjustments for draft picks, I let the game flow.

Re: House Rules for The Show 19

I use 30 team control, and try to:

-Stick to trades approved in the trade forum here (sometimes I'll just let the CPU role with their minor league trades, but it's pretty rare)
-Send big name FA's to markets that make sense (I had Harper on Philly in 18 when his contract was up, and the Padres actually signed Machado...what a world we live in).
-Minor adjustments to draft picks: If it seems like there's a lot of 22/23 years olds in the 1st round, I'll adjust their age. If I see someone with a super low durability, I'll bump it to 50.
-Sometimes I'll adjust player ratings for prospects when I call them up (to my team, or other teams). The OSFM roster had Tatis as a mid 50's contact hitter or something along those lines, so I bumped it up.

I agree with kinsmen7...

Run (most) trades through the trade forum on here. Basically don't rob the CPU.

I also run 30-team control and veto dumb trades that the CPU sometimes makes.

I will influence/alter free agency some. Example: Last year I made the Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers offer big contracts to Bryce Harper and Manny Machado. I also made sure the largest offers came from the Phillies.

Harper ended up signing with the Brewers while Machado signed with the Phillies.

Essentially, I just try to keep the game as realistic as possible while allowing things to unfold organically in my own baseball, "universe."

Re: House Rules for The Show 19

For my modern day franchise, I adopted one house rule this year; I don't use a full minors roster. I use single team control and have been using SDS rosters all year (my real franchise using the recent update that Senzel was added on). Using the SDS rosters limits the options as many teams have only a few viable minor league A/B potential guys in the entire system (vs most full minors sets that have a ton of A/B pot guys).

From there, I just start my single-team franchise and go. The only thing even semi-close to a 'house rule' after that is if I offer a major league guy for a trade, I first try to make a deal with teams that have a genuine need for the player. If the guy you offer has even marginal value, pretty much every CPU team will offer. I usually look at the CPU rosters before offering the player up for trade and target a couple of teams in my head that make sense 'to begin talks with'. Once a candidate team has been identified, I work within the confines of the game's trade engine.
