    2K23 MyCareer Build Discussion

Someone else mentioned in the Impressions thread that we should bring this thread back for the new game and I wholeheartedly agree.

Seems like it’s more difficult to have a ton of badges this year (which I love) and we’re truly being forced to make some executive decisions with the builds.

I’ll chime back in with some pictures of the builds I’m tweaking right now but I won’t be able to really start playing for a few days so I can’t really test them out online yet.

Yeah. Definitely have to be strategic. Gonna take me a second to figure out what kind of build to make my PG now.

if any of you are on next gen - can someone please confirm if you get instant replays in MyCareer at the NBA level?

For the past 2-3 years I haven't seen a single instant replay or any broadcast elements at the NBA level (Mobil 1, instant, player of the game etc) It's a known bug that they haven't fixed, but I'm hoping they did for this one - appreciate it!

some dude on reddit said it's all in so hopefully it is (or I'll get reasonably upset about it!)

Anyone have any idea how low you can go with ball handle without worrying about being plucked every possession? I mostly play off ball setting picks and trying to get open without the ball because I'm not really good with the crazy dribbles. So I'm not worried about having super drivgle badges I just kinda want a Rip Hamilton build that can shoot.

As a guard in think around 70 at the least.

Bigs maybe enough to get bronze unpluckable.

Although vice grip also goed with post control.

As a big i just went with 9 badge points.
15 is way to much of an investment.

Replays are in. They also put in the halftime show with shaq and Kenny in mycareer. I'm not a stickler with 2k like most, but it's dope imo.

Any of you guys messing with these Replica builds? I was able to discover a Mr. Big Shot build tonight and I might end up actually using it after I get my PF built up.

Min tbh. You might get some plucks. You’d mostly be missing badges. When people press u engage post so they reach foul you.

Dribbling is kind of an overrated stat. But on cg they don’t let u get super low. I assume it’s same. 70 is good dribbles tho if u want something. But I much prefer pass acc to invest in.

Yeah one of the groups I run with has a PG that has minimum ball handling and like 50 passing. That low of passing for a PG was not wise but ball handling hasn’t been an issue for him at all.

I think as people discover how strong Glove is it might become an issue though. That same PG has 99 steal and Glove equipped and he’s averaging like 10+ steals per game in the Rec just from ripping ball handlers.

The ball is live. haha. I'm on PS4, but yea... that's why it's prol worth to always put at least 50 (imo 60) in steal. You can get that one body block steal all the time. Nobody toggles post up to protect ball.

The two rec games I've played were domination, and one had everyone on the other team quit except C because they couldn't get the ball past half court. haha.

My dood still a 65~ tho, but he's gonna be alright soon. Stealing is definitely an art. It sucks that they haven't found a way to make it more governed by the rating. Same with ball handle, there really should be a dribbling and a ball protect or just general ball strength rating. They should be having the better protectors dribbling lower and maybe even give them some auto (since let's be honest, 2k gives auto successes or fails based on build/badges) adjustments when they are about to dumb out and lose the ball. Then they could have dudes with sloppy handles. To me, a good example is Steph Curry. If Steph has space, he's got crazy dribbles, but against pressure, he performs more 'average.' If you give the shooters dribbles like that in 2k, it's perfect, and it seems like they are getting closer to that.

In a lot of cases tho you just have to tap L2 and be in the right position (assuming you're not running into someone who is pressing steal,) and they will foul you.

This open build thing is cool as hell tho, to actually dump stats that don't matter as much for my style. Like I am a catch n shooter, too. But I push the ball on the break, so I like to be able to have some ball speed (when I have a small, I mean.) I do a lot of my 'dribble moves' by flicking the LS around at the right time. Don't need any dribble to do that.

Bonus vid, speaking of stealing! HoF MC, totally not kosher by NBA rules, but this is STEALING. 50~ steal, 65 rating, no boosts, no steal badges...

                              <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/i4imU6-fmag" title="YouTube video player" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0"></iframe>

But yea PASSING matters. I am a big loser so I made a dude w/ HoF pass badges who is a center. I feel like all 'archetype bases' even though they don't exist anymore kind of make your player strong at that... for instance, yellows being better at passing even w/ low rating. I think that still holds true cuz my guy even throws better outlets than the players I tried to make with less. Passing in 2k is prol one of the most important stats, esp now that it's tied to dimer (on CG) AND Post Playmaker. Let's just say that ball is gonna be nice and ripe when I kick it out.

Last year, passing didn't matter much at all, but ye ya boy is gonna regret that.
