    Defensive Pick and Roll Button

    Had a thought the other day and tweeted one of the 2k devs about getting rid of the charge button due to it never really being used properly. We've all experienced playing against that guy who just spams the charge button up and down the court. My suggestion was to make drawing charges more of a contextual thing then being controlled by the user. So charge animations would take place primarily in the paint when an offensive player makes the wrong decision and decides to bull rush his way into the paint. This would also address some of the bailout contact layups bc guys are now being called for offensive fouls.

    With the freeing up of one of the face buttons on defense I also suggested that they utilize the button as a way to control your cpu big in the pick and roll game. The same way on offense where u hold the p&r button to decide whether u want to slip, roll, or fade u could also do that on defense. This time it would be something like if u hold the button your big sags off the roll guy dropping into the paint giving up the jumper to the guard but negating the roll due to him sitting in the paint. Or if u hold the defensive p&r button longer it would have your big stay glued to the guy he's guarding negating the pick and pop game, but being vulnerable to the drive. Implementing this type of system would be a way to counter the p&r on the fly.

    I think it's too late into the cycle for something like this to be put into 2k15, but I think it's a good idea for future games. Let me know what u guys think.

    Re: Defensive Pick and Roll Button

    In my book this is a great idea. It would be nice to have a context button on defense to be able to draw charges only in the paint (where it is actually used on basketball nowadays) and the same button could be used (out of the paint) to convert the pick&roll offense/defense in a chess game...

    Yes, I like it, first you would get rid of the stupidity of people stopping in the middle of the court trying to draw a charge (ridiculous and only effective due to lag) and you would have a weapon to combat cheesers who just attack the paint to take advantadge of some overpowered players/moves, and second you would bring more depth in the defensive end beeing able to decide how to fight the pick and roll on the fly...

    Cheers! ;-)

      Really cool idea. I like it!

      Better pick-and-roll coverage is one area that would enhance the game quite a bit. Especially on the XB1/PS4 now, that area of the game is limited in terms of what you can control and scheme for.

        Not a bad idea

        Tap= Show and Go
        Mid-Press= Hard Hedge
        Hold=Switch

        Something to that effect would be absolutely awesome, but then again, if defensive rotations were implemented correctly, there'd be no purpose for any of this. A guy can certainly dream.

          i honesty think thats a terrible idea. why remove charge control and make it contextual when the game cant even directional pass correctly.

          Furthermore, why need a button when they could add defensive settings back and allow full control of schemes?

            Seems like a complicated feature to use in real time. I dont' know. I'd prefer we get individual defensive settings back tbh.

              This is a good topic. It would be nice if this was added as an option. There was another good thread that touched on P&R defense in 2K14. I am not sure getting rid of the charge button is the right way though.

              http://www.operationsports.com/forum...e-defense.html

              I think the pick and roll defense could use some improvements to make things a little more authentic to each team. For example there should be a pick and roll setting for defense. It is like they forgot that this is basically defensive plays missing from the game to defend the most popular play in the NBA.

              I would love to see some pick and roll strategy from that thread added and then maybe add some of these quick options on a button like this thread.

                If I had to pick an order for 2K I would say implement actual real pick and roll defense under the settings menu and have a coach strategy for each. The button would be after they get the actual team specific pick and roll defense right.

                  Re: Defensive Pick and Roll Button

                  I agree with u guys about bringing back individual defensive assignments, and also adding team specific p&r strategies to the game. The p*r defensive button was just a way to make a change on the fly. It's something that can work in tandem with the points mentioned above. An example would be if u were going up against Rose u would go into your settings to have your big on the p&r to defend the paint basically "icing" the p&r forcing Rose to be a jump shooter. If for some reason he was knocking down his jumpshot consistently u might want to switch things up for a play or two by hard hedging him or trapping him without pausing the game. It's just away to give us more tools to play how we want. It's not an invasive tool bc we can use if we want or choose not to use it. Thanks for the feedback, many of you have great ideas. Also I don't see the positives in keeping the charge button.

                    You could hold down on the left stick on D to get in the charge animation.
                    So holding LT or L2 would get you in your low defensive stance, left or right on the right stick would slide each way quickly, up on the stick is hands up contested d, and down would be a charge.
                    I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
                    I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

                      i get you, but for that i could just control the big for those few possessions. no need to pause.

                        U are correct about being to switch off and control your big, but then u lose control over your guard defending ball handler. The button gives us the ability to be able to control both.

                          There is no need for a charge button. If somone barrels over a guy who has established position call a charge. You stop moving, your feet plant. You shouldn't need a button to plant your feet.

                            why one or the other. id like to have both the ability to take a charge on command and draw one with positioning.

                            And in response to EZ, with your example of "icing" d rose, the guard would already be aggressively going high on the screen, so tightening up with the big is the only thing left to do to take the jumper away.

                              This should be added, but also in off screens, etc. Choosing which way to execute the play or how to defend it would increase the control of the user over the game.
