The only "point" proven is that people overreact and over-exaggerate AS USUAL. It's almost like people forgot WHY signature skills/badges were introduced in the first place. Once players hit the 90s, almost all of the superstars played the exact same.
Examples:
Gary Payton vs Allen Iverson vs Steph Curry: All three would have very high steal ratings, and they would be able to simply rip the ball from the opponents' hands and jump passes as if they were the same player. However, the introduction of the steal badges is what separates one from being able to pluck your pockets on-ball vs others whose steal rating comes from jumping passes. Pick Pocket/Active Hands vs Interceptor. Ratings alone couldn't separate them.
Bill Russell vs Hakeem vs Dikembe: All three would possess very high block ratings, but the sig skills/badges are there to separate players who were really good at simply blocking shots vs a rim protector who would block you so emphatically that it would completely knock you out of rhythm, and make you think twice about coming to the paint. Ratings alone can't separate them.
The differentiation between shooters: It's a well-known fact that some shooters are much better in catch-and-shoot situations vs being able to simply shoot in any situation. Otherwise, you'd have a Kyle Korver-type being just as effective in all situations as a Steph Curry-type. Again, badges are there to separate where ratings cannot.
Passing: The pass rating isn't enough to separate those who simply had great vision vs someone who seems to be able to hit players in rhythm. Hence the Dimer badge.
And those are just a few examples. I can come up with plenty more.
Did they go a bit overboard with the HOF badges? Sure. Are some badges more effective than others, thus skewing the playing field this year? Of course. But to get rid of badges altogether is stupid. Once again, all that needs to happen is bring back the 5-7 equip limit from 2k14, and that solves a lot of problems.
P.S. Stop with the 'omg we have a contested rating for shooters!' excuse. You know damn well that, by the end of the seasonal 2k lifespan, people here will cry long enough about people with high contested ratings nailing shots in their face that it'll get nerfed into the ground, just like this year, to where someone 5 feet away can force bad shot selection/grades.
